Wedding venues in scotland

Hey there, Just got engaged and I am looking at ideas for wedding venues. I really wanted somewhere pretty so in the country for nice pictures. I've looked at castles and stately homes but they are rather expensive (though look amazing). I was wondering if anyone knows ideas for venues, I've tried to look for barns etc that I could decorate myself and bring in outside caterers but no luck. Help would be appreciated!
Planning to marry 2012!

You don't saw where in Scotland you're looking...that might help narrow it down a bit!
We got married in Lands of Loyal hotel in Alyth (just north of Dundee) in April - it was fantastic! It is a country house but small enough that we could take the whole place over (17 rooms, I think)- it is so luxurious looking that we didn't need to bother with much extra decoration (got some flowers anyway because I like them!). Great views over the valley and nice gardens for photos (or tiring out dogs and children!). Great food and friendly staff. Sorry sounds like an advert, but I just had such a great day!0 -
Chatelherault Country Park in hamilton in south lanarkshire is beautiful and very popular for weddings its not my thing but the grounds would be amazing for pictures and i think its £600 for your wedding as you need atleast 2 hours at 300 an hour - i have the information pack somewhere if you want exact numbers. the link to the council website is http://www.southlanarkshire.gov.uk/portal/page/portal/EXTERNAL_WEBSITE_DEVELOPMENT/SLC_ONLINE_HOME/SLC_WHATS_ON/WHATSON_FACILITIES/?CONTENT_ID=1473
the castles in historic scotland arent that badly priced as i was looking at them for my own wedding so it might be worth a look. do you have a specific area you are looking at?0 -
Well I live in edinburgh, my parents live in fife so anywhere near these areas. Though I also have family near glasgow. I think for the perfect place I'd be willing to travel.
Thanks for that info, I'll look at those places. Id love a castle if we could afford it! x0 -
Hi Msmanda85,
There is a rentahostel scheme which has a Mansion on Loch Lomond and a castle in the Highlands available - venues look gorgeous even if they are hostels!
Sorry I can't post links but google "rentahostel weddings" if you want a look0 -
Kinkell byre is just outside st andrews, so might be a good choice.
I have been to a couple of weddings there, and both were amazing!
Its a big barn type place, but comes empty, so you have to get everything yourself.
kinkell byre
You really have to visit to see the space for yourself, because its really hard to see all the options just from the photos.
I think there are a few diff rooms you can use inside the barn as well.
hope that helps0
