hi posting on behalf of my mum and dad
eon were doing some work outside there house whilst they were on hols and cut there power off by mistake. the x2 freezers both defrosted, eon admitted it was there fault and told dad he could claim off his halifax insurance and eon would pay halifax insurance.
eon paid £280 to halifax but halifax only passed on £130 to dad as he has a £150 excess is this right?
seems unfair as eon admitted responsibility and paid in full

Why does your dad think that he shouldn't pay his excess? Why did your dad not go straight to Eon rather than through his insurance? Why are you asking on the Debt Free Wannabe board?0

why dont you offer help rather than be a prat?0

Hi xyellowx
Sorry I can't really offer any advice as such but just wanted to say ignore the above post. If people don't have anything good to say then they shouldn't say anything at all. I don't know why eon told your dad to do this through his insurance. I have recently had lots of power cuts and our supply is with edf and they issued us with a form for compensation, no mention of insurance, which is just as well cos I don't have any:o Although we didn't lose all our freezer stuff or anything they are compensating for the inconvenience of loss of power on numerous occassions for hours on end.
Perhaps you should contact eon and see what they say.I must stop procrastinating, I must stop procrastinating! promise I'll stop tomorrow OK:D

Hi yellow
It doesn't seem fair that your Dad would have to pay the excess for something that is clearly not their fault.
Its not something I am familiar with but I would have thought that eon should have paid your folks directly. Or paid you the excess amount so your Dad is not out of pocket. That said maybe ask on the insurance board as people there may be more familiar with what would be standard in this type of case.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Why does your dad think that he shouldn't pay his excess?
Her Dad should pay his excess but if his Insurers recover it then they have to pay it back to him.
Her Dad put in a claim for £280.00. He had a £150.00 excess so Halifax only paid him £130.00.
However, eon admitted liability in full and paid the sum of £280.00 in full and final settlement. Halifax should keep the £130.00 they paid out but the remaining £150.00 should go to her dad.
Unless that is that Halifax did not recover the £280.00 in full. In which case your dad should make a complaint regarding this as they did not include a claim for his excess when they should have done.Wedding 5th September 20150
