Ancient hoover bags?

Options
Hi all

A little miracle of old style technology happened to me today.

I was hoovering my bedroom with a dyson (it is a CR*P machine! overrated and expensive) that kept stopping and starting - it does this a lot even after I empty the box and clean the filter.

So in the end I got fed up and retrieved from storage an ancient stand-up hoover that I got for free at a charity event, they were throwing it away and I picked it up for nothing.

Worked a treat! Hoovered bedroom & hall very well and a lot quicker too. Did the stairs with a hard brush and dustpan, really OS, and they came out much cleaner than if I had hoovered them anyway!

Now I am thinking of getting rid of the wretched dyson which drives me mad and keep using the hoover for the time being (until I find a lighter vacuum model for a bargain price somewhere), keeping the hoover for emergencies.

Does anyone know where to buy hoover bags for a machine that must be at least 20+ years old?

Thank you very much

Caterina

  • There is a stall in our indoor market that specialises in hoover bags. Maybe you can get them online, have you tried? Also, just an extra moneysaving tip, why not tip the contents of the bag into a black binbag when its full and reuse that same bag?

I have found https://www.dustbag.co.uk very helpful.
  • The manufacturers website may still stock old bag designs.

Sometimes supermarkets have a range of generic ones which may feature your model even if it is very old.

    Ciao Sarah,

Great to see you too - I do lurk here still, although having been very busy lately I haven't had a lot of time to chat and post.

Remember the job I was offered while in York? Turned out to be a bl**dy nightmare and I have resigned - last day 30th September, but it was so awful that I went off sick and now I am at home with depression (actually feeling a lot better even just for being away from that dreadful place!).

Now that my income has been again reduced to very little (still doing a bit of doulaing and some admin from home, but not much) I shall appear here again more often!

Hope you and your kids are well, take care, be in touch!

Caterina, If your job was interfeering with your ability to post on OS then you did the right thing giving it the heave-ho. LOL Nice to see you around - I hope it isn't just your hoover that starts to to pick up for you!

LOL, I just thought I'd post to say that they are selling a reusable vaccuum cleaner bag on Tchibo for £3.99 and say it fits all standard hoovers. It might not fit yours but if anyone else finds this thread it may be of use to them. I'm definitely thinking about ordering one, it annoys me how much they cost and how often I have to replace them.
