Bleach that doesn't smell too bad?

I am going to have to use a lot of household bleach soon, because of some medical treatment my OH has to have. Trouble is, I hate the smell of the usual household bleach, it makes me feel quite sick. I am really bothered about the idea of my house smelling horrible for most of the time.

So I am looking for a bleach that doesn't smell too bad (or too much like cheap bleach) but that also doesn't cost the earth. Does anyone have any suggestions?

:D

BTW It has to be strong enough to kill bugs, and will need to be left in the loo for 15 minutes after each wee - and we've been told to use two cups of bleach each time, so it's going to be a lot of bleach!

I have already posted this question on the Health board, but then thought that you OS board members probably have a better knowledge of cheap and cheerful bleach than most....

    Hi there,

I tend to use Sainsburys own brand bleach (often at 2 bottles for £1) and get the citrus or aqua one. There's still the bleach smell, but not too bad.

Do you have a window in the bathroom that you can leave on the nightlock to ventilate the bathroom?

Good luck finding a product you like.

Tricky one. In my experience even scented bleaches smell of bleach. Does it absolutely have to be bleach? I'm wondering if baby sterilising tablets/solution would work as although they have a bleach smell, it's only slight and that's to get rid of germs.

That could be a possibility, I hadn't thought of that. I usually use Milton if I need a disinfectant for anything because it doesn't really smell at all, but it is very expensive to use in quanitity. Is there an own brand baby sterilising product which is cheaper but doesn't smell so much?

I use Milton for my winemaking but I'm sure places like Boots and Wilkos do their own versions. Possibly Asda and Tesco too.
  • Asda does its own version of sterilising fluid if you are able to use that instead of bleach.

I have to say I can't stand the smell of bleach either, but have never found one that smells ok!

Hope your hubby is ok after his treatments.
