Exifax/experian disputes

Hi - new here - and have a question....

ordered my statuatory copies of credit files and had on equifax 4 mistakes totaling 2,700 of debts that I don't owe (3 which are old loans/credit cards which I've paid off, have proof of etc and were showing with outstanding balances, one of which apparently I had monthly payments of £99,999 per month ) and one which I can only assume is my old credit card number when I lost a card - as the new number is showing with the correct balance but the old number is still there with an outstanding balance - which does not exist.

I've raised disputes on-line with equifax over a week ago but had no acknowledgement or anthing - do they let you know they've recieved your dispute, and do they let you know what's going on with it. I just don't want to be sitting here thinking they're doing something when in fact they havn't received anything, and I certainly don't want to keep paying money for my reports on the off-chance they've ammended the offending items......

I really want to get this cleared up before I try and get a credit card to balance transfer over.

cheers for any replies,

    Hi there and welcome.

I had a couple of incorrect entries in my file with credit expert (experian) and I got in touch with them last week. I received an e-mail from them confirming they received my request and another one today advising me they have resolved it.

I don't know how equifax are operating but worth sending them an e-mail perhaps to ask if they can confirm receipt of your enquiry?
    Leason learnt
  • They will both acknowledge via e-mail, normally within 7-10 days, if you haven’t heard anything after that then give them a ring and see what’s happening.

They will then give the creditor 28 days from the point of request by the CRA's to respond an verify data.

In general Equifax will suppress data if no information is received after the 28 days, however Experian will leave it on your file until instructed otherwise by the creditor, or the Information Commissioners Office
 It’s hard enough remembering my opinions - without remembering my reasons for them
  • I am in the same boat. I got my Equifax report yesterday and it shows that I defaulted on a payment to Hutchison 3G which is quite simply not true. They closed my account without warning and as a result, the direct debit failed. I ended up paying my bill using my debit card and they opened me a new account.

I filed the dispute yesterday and so far have heard nothing. Maybe I will hear something next week.
