im currently unemployed due to ill health and recieving income support .. i have been told by the physiotherapists/doctors at the hospital that purchasing a mountain bike would help improve my illness. my question is .. would i be able to get help (money wise) with regards to purchasing a mountain bike??

            Do you receive DLA?
For what reason do you need a mountain bike? You can pick up a normal bike very cheaply, or indeed free via Freecycle.Gone ... or have I?0 -
yes i also recieved dla .. a mountain bike would help me improve & strengthen my vmo muscles up hopefully enough 2 reduce the amount of knee dislocations i have on both legs (many years of normal physio hasnt helped etc) a physio has suggested that i get a bike .. to get a decent suitable bike for me is about £120 (not that cheap) i just wondered if i would be allowed any help (as it could be a benefit to improving my health)0

If you do manage to get help or save for the bike i hope it helps your medical condition . However i am not sure that this is possible to gain financial assistance,(although i hope it is) because, for example, many many conditions improve in stress free warm climates - and i cant see the government sending us all off to the Caribbean for a month.....but it would be nice wouldnt it !

No the government won't help this person get a bike, but it does help you buy your alchohol if you are an alchoholic.0 -

So surely this would be exactly what your DLA is for, no?welshgirl_michelle wrote: »yes i also recieved dla .. a mountain bike would help me improve & strengthen my vmo muscles up hopefully enough 2 reduce the amount of knee dislocations i have on both legs (many years of normal physio hasnt helped etc) a physio has suggested that i get a bike .. to get a decent suitable bike for me is about £120 (not that cheap) i just wondered if i would be allowed any help (as it could be a benefit to improving my health)*SIGH*

But some people find that DLA doesn't cover the cost of everything.
Depends what you mean by 'everything' it should certainly be used for any mobility assistance ie a bike.
Would swimming help.
Edited to add, try Freecycle, supermarket boards or even Halfords sell decent bikes for £70 or so.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
