Lower price new Del Laptops

These are going for around 40% less on ebay, than the Dell website. This appears to be some kind of offloading from Dell that enterprising individuals are selling off through ebay and other outlets.
The prices are around £700 for £1000 pound laptops, complete with Dell guarantees - I have managed to buy one with a 3 year next day on site warranty for less than £700 including postage.

Make sure your seller has a good reputation, and if anyone else knows more about the Dell setup, please post.

I am not posting the links to the laptops, as I don't want to appear to be pushing particular sellers. Just do a search on ebay for Dell Laptops - my advice is to go for new, intel duo, with a Radeon X1400 graphics card. Also if it's an auction, be careful not to push the price up too much! Check out the buy it now prices first.

I'd be care about Dell at the moment as this could be offloading due to the whole issue with their laptops going afire because of their SONY batteries

Surely the trick is to buy from the same place the eBay sellers do. Possibly Dell Outlet.

I have to admit, this was my first thought too, but Dell Outlet seems to have had very few laptops on it recently. Perhaps this expalins why.

Outlet will have tones soon when kids go back to school as people will return them.

Im looking carefully at ebay for a new dell laptop.

The only thing i have noticed is that the processors dont have the same spec as the Dell website.

I want the XPS M1210

on Dell: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7200 (2.00 GHz, 4 MB L2 cache, 667 MHz FSB)

on Ebay: Intel ® Core™ Duo Processor T2500 (2.00 GHz, 2 MB L2 cache, 667 MHz FSB)

So are they flogging systems that no longer come up to todays spec?

I wouldnt say a Intel Core processor wasnt up to days spec as many still use it but Core 2 Duo is amazingly fast.

If the spec on eBay isn't on the main site then it's 99% sure to be an Outlet system (assuming it's not a fraudulent listing of course!)

I went through all this process before I finally purchased, I hope reasonably thoroughly.

I nearly bought the review model from Computer Shopper which recommends PC Nextday's laptop for what amounts to 590 ish including shipping. The problem was the 4 week wait - reason the high spec was partly due to the off board graphics card.

So checked the Dell site, and found lower spec machines for not such a good price. Checked ebay and found the offloading going on. There is also a shop in Sheffield that buys from Dell, then adds 20% and sells on to you.

I talked to the people I was buying from, and you are right, ideally we need to buy direct from Dell - but I did not have the time or inclination to do this.

Also no contacts with Dell - which makes it harder.

My reasoning for the ebay laptops was, best value for money I could find + no hassle with guarantees as guarantee was with Dell. Normally I wouldn't have chosen a Dell laptop as they would be too expensive, but this brought the price down to a cheap level.

I am happy to give the details for the above if anyone PM's me.

Spec for my system is :

256MB ATI Radeon X1400 dedicated graphics card
60GB 5400rpm Hard Disk
1GB (2 x 512MB) DDR2-533 MHz SDRAM

plus other bits not too different to any other dell machine

The pricey bits in this are the Dell warranty, XP Pro, True life monitor and the graphics card.
The duo processor is at the bottom end of the range of duo processors, but much better than my current desktop!

You must be careful who you buy from though, and make sure the system is new with warranty.

Just checked the processors, see wikipedia for better explanation:

but to simplify, core 2 is a brand name which is subdivided into solo and duo processors. The duo's are the "two processors on one" type, so faster.
The main difference between the two above, are the speed of the duo processors - but duo are fast anyway.
