Hi,

Over the past 6 months i've eaten/drank what the hell I liked and have done less and less exercise to the point where I barely do any.

It's now all caught up with me and i've put on weight mostly around the middle.

I've looked on the web for diet and exercise plans and all I get is pics of body builders recommending a certain book, tablets or machine etc with a cheesy quote which is apparently from him!

Now (sadly I know!) I was watching Peter Andre's program (Peter Andre the next chapter I think??) the other night and he had some fitness guru come to his house. This guy gave him a diet plan to help Peter strip fat as he wanted a more toned look. The fitness guru chap said that all Peter should eat was grilled steak and veg for virtually every meal (inc breakfast!!). He told Peter to cut out carbs (Pasta, Potatoe's and cereals etc) and even fruit!

Of course this guy also told Peter to do exercie which of course I need to start again. Now I don't want to look like hulk but have more of a footballers type physique. I slim virtually everywhere apart from my belly which is not massive and you woudn't even notice unless I took my top off. I'm 6 foot tall and i'm weighing in around 13 stones (maybe slightly over).

So basically what i'm basically asking for is there a website out there that is straight to the point on how to lose weight? Which gives meal tips and exercise routine tips without being coned etc? Also a website that gives you nutrition values on virtually every food/drink product available. I have seen this somewhere before.

Your help would be much appreciated. :)

standard low carb diet, theres a thread in this section dedicated to it with lots of guides at the start

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/1567335

there's no magic way to "strip fat", its all comes down to cals in and cals out and exercise (you also can not target an area to burn fat, fat is taken from across the body all you do is tone the muscle under the fat, the best exercise is what ever burns the most cals per hour for you)

low carb works because it reduces insulin spikes so you don't have sugar cravings along with protein being an appetite suppressant

Straight to the point? Come stay with me. I'm trying to put on weight.

    Breakfast - Weetabix and milk

Lunch - Protein of your choice with broccoli, mushrooms, (basically any veg you like), sunflower or olive oil over the lot in a pyrex dish, placed in oven. The veg only need 10 minutes, adjust the cooking time for meat. Served with rice or spuds.

Dinner - ummm, the same again.

One variation is when I get a large joint of meat, and it's bunged in the slow cooker with a bunch of veg and some herbs to flavour. Then it's served up with a carbohydrate of your choice.

Snacks in between of chocolates, biscuits, cheesecake.

I went to a science fair this weekend, and my body fat is 19%

I suppose if you are finding it hard to do, the thing is to tell us what you're eating for meals and snacks, and we can go over it with you?

But essentially the only way to lose weight is through fewer calories coming in then going out. Weather you chose to do that by not eating a whole bunch of foods or eating what feels wrong (eg steak for breakfast) in a bid to eat less (eg your probably not going to want to go back for more steak after 1 yet you may feel the need to go back for more cereal) its your choice but don't be under any impression that what Peter Andre is doing is reducing the calories that he eats.

Exercise can and will help, if anything it helps you feel mopre respect for your body- you don't want to screw it up by stuffing it full of rubbish.

Building muscles is a good idea; even when resting your body requires more calories to keep it going. But be aware that its actually very hard to build and then maintan muscle, to build it you need to have surplus calories in your system, yet to lose weight you need a calorie deficit- you have to think about whats more important to you. Building muscle you can take weeks to put on just a few pounds of muscle and thats if your quite intensive with it and supplimenting your eating with certain body building hormones and additives (not so good). Fat lies on top of muscle. You can work for months building up your muscles but if you already have a large layer of fat over your body, its not so easy to see the muscles if at all plus you are likely to give your fat a plumped up look- so its a good idea to work on the fat reduction at some point, it wont sort itself naturally.

You seem to have a fairly good grasp of whats gone wrong: you ate badly and you reduced your exercise level. If you just switched those around you'd be laughing- start off with whats easiest as basicly when you work to get a better physique, you can't just stop when you get there and assume you'll stay looking like that forever, no, its a daily continual thing- you have to carry it on for life and whats more, as you age your muscles start to decline and your requirement for food reduces- you must be careful to notice these changes.

So do by all means diet and exercise and etc, but be aware your trying to set up a pattern for life, not just a few months.

Does your gym do classes? They are an excellent way to get PT intensity without paying for it. RPM/spinning is SUPERB for fat burning. I am doing 2 a week at the moment in addition to my other exercise and you are drained and drenched after!!
Website wise I really like myprotein.com. Whilst its selling you things it also helps with information based on your goals. The lean muscle page may be helpful as it gives a rough days diet plan on it

    http://www.myprotein.co.uk/pages/goals/lean-muscle

    and the weight control

    http://www.myprotein.co.uk/pages/goals/weight-control

The main thing though is to get more active. Building muscle mass not only fills your frame as the weight drops off but it also has a higher metabolic rate so helps you to burn more calories more easily.

Wow guys great response as always!!

My diet has improved over the last few weeks. Breakfast I usually eat Shredded Wheat with Semi skimmed Milk. Lunch I usually have muller rice, pineapple chunks and some lunchables. For some reason I love lunchables! Dinner is probably my weak spot. I tend to have a couple of take aways a week. Large dinners around my GF's also don't help. eg a huge plate full of Spag Bol with 4 peices of garlic bread. Sometimes I make myelf some Tuna pasta with gratted cheese on top. Or Scrambled egg on toast again with a helping of chedder cheese. I drink lager most weekends too, around 10 bottles/pints.

I reckon if I exercised then this diet wouldn't be so bad.

Can you switch some of pasta and bread to rice?

I would lower the pasta or switch to wholemeal - LOTS of carbs there!

Do you supplement the spag bol with a big salad? This way, you'll fill up with fewer calories, as well as upping your vitamin and fibre intake?
