Me and my girlfriend may have to look into this due mainly to costs, anyone on here done it?
I know of a couple who got married in Cyprus and one in Portugal. I just wanted to know if any of you moneysavers done it and who did you use? I know it's alot cheaper than doing it in England.
Quite a few friends and family have already said they will come. I've got around £6000 saved so if we could do the majority with that it would be great.
Thanks for any advice.

My brother and his wife married in Las Vegas last year. Everything was arranged through the wedding coordinator at the hotel we stayed at (they got married at the hotel, not in one of the wedding chapels - it was very tasteful!) and my SIL said it was loads cheaper than marrying in this country!:j Debt Free 27.07.2011!! :j0

It depends on where you would like to go. I'm going to Mauritius and we have spent aorund £5k to include 7 nights in Mauritius all inclusive, 5 nights in Cape Town, the wedding package, flights, transfers etc for us as a couple. Family who are coming out with us are paying for themselves.
Perhaps visit some of the travel agents and picking out a few destinations to get some rough quotes. There are some good online agents that specialise in weddings abroad too. Hopefully this will give you a good starting point.
Hope that helps!0 -
Thanks, I was looking in the window at 'Co Op Travel' which mentioned Wedding packages, may have to look in there and ask about it and get some quotes. I'd probably prefer to get married over here but I think we'll do it in Cyprus if its affordable. Thanks!0

We considered getting married abroad, but then discovered that we could get married in the uk for around 5K...this includes everything excapt the honeymoon really. I know people who have got married for less in the uk too...its just depends where you live as to how expensive everything is, but there is uaually a bargain to be had somewhere!
Of course, if you want to combine the wedding and honeymoon and can get it at a good price then thats also good!
One thing i did notice when we were looking was that the prices for abroad weddings only seem to be for the bride and groom...with everything else as an additional expsence (meals, photographer etc), while in the UK for our 5K we have almost 100 guests who are catered for, a dress, suits, bridesmaids dresses, cars, flowers, cake etc..
It is ultimately up to you! Do what you want to do (and don't let people change your mind..it is your day afterall!). We were looking at expensive places abroad (Canada, Caribbean etc), i'm sure other places are much cheaper!
xxNow a married lady and loving it! Now..to clear that pesky mortgage! :beer:0 -
We've both got used to the idea of marrying abroad now to be honest. The gf's family had a bit of a fall out a while ago so we can avoid that situation aswell and not have to invite every single friend and family member!
We often go on holiday with mates, and they are all definitely coming wherever we go. We are probably going to do it in Cyprus. Anyone got married there?0 -
My daughter is getting married In Gibraltar in August. It's a British territory so there's no need for extra documentation you just need to email your usual identification documents to the registry office (although obviously you have to show them physically once you are there), bonus is it's all in English as well. You can get married in the registry office, or a number of other places on the 'rock' including historic buildings, religious buildings ie churches, the suite at the top of the rock, the gorgeous botanical gardens and hotels but, unfortunately not the beach.
It's only 2 hours away and there are flights into Gibraltar airport as well as a whole load of choices into Malaga in Spain, it's also a bit cheaper to stay in Spain as well - especially if you combine the wedding as part of your holiday.
It's also sooo much cheaper than doing it here!
I think it's worth putting on your list!0 -
I will have a look, thanks. But she wants Cyprus now and everyone else all seem like they want their holiday there so it makes sense! I suppose until I talk face to face with a travel agent or someone like that I wont know the ins and outs completely0

Hi my brother in law gat married in Cyprus 2 years ago at the 5* Adams Beach resort in Nssi Bach (about 15mins walk Ayia Napa)The hotel and wedding setting were beautiful-they have a choice of a few places for the ceremony in the hotel and it was all very private(even though it was June!),and it was very organised, the meal afterwards was lovely too.About 25 of us travelled out and some of the guests stayed there, others at the Olympic lagoon resort up the road-which was slightly cheaper.I think it was all booked through Thomas Cook, well worth a look.
I was married in Florida at Cypress Gardens which was amazing-definatly reccomend!!!
Hope this helps:)0 -
If you look in the thomas cook brochure, If I remember right, you can get married on a yacht, and have your reception sailing around watching the sun set. looked amazing!!0

We got married in Cyprus last December, for myself, hubby and 13 year old son in self catering accommodation the holiday and wedding package cost just under £1500. There was spending money, outfits etc on top of that. I would suggest looking for wedding planners out there rather than using travel company though, we had a lot of hassle with them and have seen lots of comments on several forums with similar issues. We had an amazing time and would recommend it to anybody! I can also recommend Paul Jones as a photographer in the Paphos area-he was great. Good luck and happy planning0
