I'm wondering if anyone has any information/experience of water fed pole window cleaning? My OH is very interested in starting his own business and is looking at all the different companies, but what I cannot seem to find are any reviews/testimonials of customers or window cleaners.
Looking into best systems and costs etc
All feedback is much appreciated, thank you.

Hi Jo
There are several window cleaning forums around if you google it, my hubby is a window cleaner and has looked into the water fed idea but has decided not to persue it, he has had customers who have tried it and didn't like saying they got water marks and weren't happy with the results but what put him off more than anything was the water wastage and the amount of equipment you need to get the water pure which needs to be bought regularly (ongoing expense), when there are people in other countries desperate for clean drinking water and these systems use a lot of water it doesn't feel right.
Thats just the way we looked at it and i suggest you take a look around at some of the other forums and see what other window cleaners have to say.

You're going to find all sorts of reviews from customers, so probably best to leave that aspect alone.
Expect to pay ~£15K to buy a (new) van and have the equipment fitted. There are of course some ongoing costs (show me a business that doesn't have them!) but they are not things which need to be bought all that regularly.
As to the waste of water, well that isn't something I'd like to comment on, as some people will say that any wastage is bad and I'm not here to feed the trolls. Of course there is some waste, but it really is minimal. Get your OH to join ACS and have a good read through the forums. He'll get a far better idea of whether or not it's for him.0 -
I have a water fed pole system that i use somtimes for customers houses. You can buy the set up for a few hundred pounds and filter the water at home with an osmosis. You have to carry the barrels of water in your car though so you need quite a sturdy car. This is just to start up with and as you get more customers you can buy a van with all the setup, this is better than risking thousands of pounds rather thana few hundred. Also some of the houses you cannot park in front of so the trolley system does come in very handy. Saying all this though this is only a small part of my business, carpet cleaning is where the real money is. Good luck with the business because there is a lot of competition out there who will undercut you, its usually people on the dole who do this as they can afford to as they probably have no overheads like insurance ect.0

I get my windows cleaned and whilst windows are clean often the sills are missed
The guy uses a small white van, very long thin hose that reaches well over 100 metres and he keeps a tank full of distilled water0 -
Thanks for all of your comments, will definitely do some more research.
