Employment Appointmet Letter

I have been working with my current employer for over a year now. I checked my wage slip the other day and noticed I hadn't recieved my increment in April.

I checked my letter, (which also had other items I had to agree and sign with one copy going back to HR) and this said that an increment should have been given to me in Sept too.

I since contacted HR and they have said that this is an error, and I should only have the increment in April. They have also said that I would of had this increment in Sept if I started with thim before April 09, however this was delayed as they never sent out the appointment letter in time for me to hand my notice in.

This is a signed document that also stated my working hours etc.

Where do I stand on this matter?

Increment entitlement would normally be from the day of commencement not appointment so the September one looks valid not to have been awarded. Ask them to award Aprils and back date.

    Thanks for that.

I can see where they are coming from, however, when I recieved a phone call off them asking if I was tsill ready to start on the original date I expalined that I wasnt as I couldnt hand in my notice without my appointment letter. I informed them that the date would now change due to the length of time I had to give.

They failed to change the start date on the letter/contract that I signed. Who is to say that it should have stated my original start date and infact this was an error?

    Thanks

Your incremental entitlement is based on your commencement date. Behind your apointment letter / what you are calling your contract (which isn't) there will be a policy that explains how increments are calculated and awarded. Since this policy forms part of what actually is the contract, then the employer is acting correctly.
