In that case, you're the one setting your rate. You've paid dearly to find out that your rate is too low, but now you know.
What's the notice period on your contract? I'd give notice and re-approach the agency and explain that you've realised that demand for your services is higher than you thought and you've had to put your rate up. Suggest £85 per day and accept £75-80. If asked by the client why you're leaving, I'd explain that the agency is only paying you £50 per day.0 -
I used to work for Hays. They are minted.0

how come actors agents can live on 10% then, since they are known by this? Same overheads
Most actor's agents take much more, especially from less established actors who are less likely to bring in big money. They might take 10% from someone really big, but the 'third corpse from the left in Casualty' is probably handing over more to their agent - more like 50%.
My OH isn't an actor but works in the film industry and the going rate for agents in his line of work is 50%, although it tends to be negotiable if you're earning lots. Like anything, you're paying as much for the agent's contacts than anything else.0 -
What the agency earns is irrelevant. What the employer earns is irrelevant. What other people earn is irrelevant.
What IS relevant is what you earn. If you think it is a fair price for what you do, then all well and good. If you don't, then either negotiate an increase, or look for something else.

We mark up 35%, but when you take into account
Admin
Stationary
Office Overheads
Management salaries
Company cars
Mobile phones
and so on
We are left about 3% for profit!
Dont forget to include the cost corporate [STRIKE]bribes[/STRIKE] incentives, I have had some great perks from Recruitment agencies, days out at the races with spends, plenty of free lunches at decent restaurants, casino nights with spends, and most bizarrely 3 pairs of Paul Smith socks. :rotfl:
I few years back I was on a project that required 260 admin temps, I was soooo popular with the agencies, and my team had great fun playing the different agencies off each other.0
