Staples Laptop Bargain

Sorry if this has already been mentioned. I just got the following Core Duo laptop for £500 from Staples.

http://www.staples.co.uk/ENG/Catalog/cat_sku.asp?CatIds=,&webid=V384782&affixedcode=WW

It is available from the shop at that amazing price, but if you buy it through Quidco, you get about £25 back as well and shipping is free.

  • the one at comet is 1GB of RAM compared to 512mb with the one at Staples. maybe explains the price difference.

what happens if you strap toast on the back of a cat and drop it?"
  • A further important point if debating which of these two machines to buy - the Comet machine only comes with a 40GB hard drive compared to 60GB in the machine at Staples. Essentially then its 40 GB and 1GB RAM, or 60GB and 512MB RAM... the choice is upto you.

It is a lot cheaper to upgrade the RAM than the hard drive, but if the extra space is not an issue (on both you can put stuff onto DVD anyway) then perhaps you might like to go for the Comet machine. Personally i'd probably go to Staples and upgrade the RAM at a later date.

Think of the acer 5600 series at tesco with 60 gb double memory and 3 year warranty - + clubcard points to quadruple for Eurotunnel and the ski holiday!

I made exactly the same reasoning when buying the one from Staples rather than the Comet one. Also, swapping ram is a lot easier too.

I should have mentioned the Comet offer though.

Not sure this one is dual core, though I could be wrong.
