Council Tax and Moving House

I seem to keep getting different answers about this from both two different councils and my landlord etc so here goes!

Due to unforseen circumstances I am leaving my current tenancy early (ends Sept 1st 2010) and moving in with my boyfriend this month (we sign the agreement on 10th July). Boyfriend will be moving in to the property first but I will essentially be in "limbo" between two properties until the end of July or so.

I accept that I will have to be responsible for the rent on the old property until 1st Sept which will mean 1 month overlap between the two properties (BF is happy to help me out financially for this month).

My old property was a 1 bed flat and I got 25% single person discount with Leicester City Council. The new property is a 2 bed house with Blaby District Council.

What I really want to know is will I have to pay double council tax for both these properties for July/August? or will I pay 2nd home discount on the old flat?

Any help is appreciated so I can at least start planning money wise!

Unless the landlord of the old flat finds a tenant who either signs a new agreement or physically occupies the flat before 1 Sept 2010 then you will remain liable for CT until that date. While he is sole occ of new house your BF will get 25% SPD, which will obviously cease when you move in. If you were renting your flat unfurnished then when you move out you could claim exemption as unocc and unfurnished. But if it was rented furnished then you would only get 2nd home discount which would only be 10%, so you would be better off to keep claiming 25% SPD.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
