If I hadn't found this site I have no doubt that my home would have been repossed and I would be bankrupt - this site saved me as simple as that. This site for me has been an inspiration, it is that simple. When you first face up to your debt problems, it can feel a cold, dark and lonely world. This site was like a light being turned on, people on here for the most part have been there and done that, and can fully sympathize with your moment of despair. This site has also helped me to remain focused on the job at hand, and the occasional "Finally Debt Free" posts are just the incentive to continue on what can be at times a miserable situation. One day I know I will be coming on this site to post my "I did it!" thread and I know I will be wished well by many.TOTAL AT START £13606.90 27/03/2018

Gave me my life back to start. I'm a different person to what I was a year ago, future looks good(credit free).
Have £6k of ppi agreed with 4 more complaints in progress aswell as £1600 in the bank, few £k of charges reclaims in process aswell. £10k of unenforceable debts.
Fair to say if I hadnt found this site i'd of gone bankrupt by now where instead ive gone from £22k debts to £6k and an unenforceable £10k. I hit desperation point in jan, everything maxed and business going up the shoot due to paying unsecured debt,
Ive got a lot more confidence when dealing with big companies and can regularly be found haggling in the shops round town.

This site has helped my husband and I save over £800 on missold PPI on a loan we took out -plus around £80 on credit card charges and introduced me to cashback sites and fab offers. . I also gained the confidence to negotiate with companies and make them offers to get us out of debt quicker. We were in about 10 grand of debt between us when we met in 2004, between martins site and the CAB we managed to work out plans to pay off the debts completely by 2012 - this month we have become totally debt free early and it feels wonderful. I do think this site is invaluable, there is so much knowledge out there that can be shared and help many people be more money savvy
Thanks Martin xx0 -
hi well in March 09 i found this website by chance, late at night when i was in aright state with all our financial worries. i started a diary on the debt free diaries page and never looked back. yes its been up and down but we have paid off nearly £80,000 pounds of debt, saved £13,000 approx in mis-sold ppi and have found a whole world of fab supportive people. mostly this website has told me that i am not alone and that there is always someone here if i need someone to help! i have discoved ebay and in the last year or so have made about £14,000 selling my own stuff that we didnt need for much needed income!
so thanks for this website - i reckon it saved my sanity!
Highest Debt £581,000 Nov 08 and now owe nothing! yes really! I have learnt my lesson the hard way!

best thing I've got from this has been learning to live within my means, simple but life changing! Made me stop living a lifestyle I couldn't afford and realise I didn't actually want it afterall! Taught me to notice how insidious and how pervasive marketing & TV is.DF as at 30/12/16

I don't post, but visit the site most days, especially if I feel willpower is flagging, as the advice and warmth shown by the peeps on here is simply fantastic. Some people's experiences sound horrendous, but it's incredible how often just within a few days they are back in control and ready to tackle anything - and that's due to the amazing help and advice they're given.
Personally, I've cut my grocery shopping bill in half, use cashback sites when I can, have a money pot on the go for occasional treats, and now go shopping with a clear (and low) budget which usually acts as a disincentive to buy anything. I know I'm really lucky because I have enough to throw at getting my debt cleared, and am now just 14 months away from that and I'm already looking forward to being able to read the tips on where to best stash your savings...alien concept!
The absolute best thing so far was saying GOODBYE and GOOD RIDDANCE to 2 credit cards and then roaring with laughter when I got an unsolicited application form for a "pre-approved" platinum card through the post a few days later!Let us all be happy, and live within our means,
even if we have to borrer the money to do it with.

I lurk most of the time and only post occasionally.
Between the advice about managing money, how to switch just about everything to get the good deals and reclaiming unfair charges I've saved thousands. Add to that the generous and amazing advice that keeps you sane and motivated...the success stories from people who were so much worse off than you...and the general feeling that we're all in this together (even us lurkers!) and this quickly became my most visited site.
I will be debt-free in a few months' time (see sig) but I have no doubt that I'll keep coming back. If nothing else, it'll help keep me on the straight and narrow! I think I'm so into money saving habits that I'll keep looking for advice here long after I "have" to!
A big thank you to Martin, the MSE team and all of the wonderful people who give their time and knowledge for free. You've all created something really special here and it's saved more people than you can ever know - you should be so proud. :T:T:T:T:T
