Hi,

I am looking to borrow £20,000 as an unsecured loan with a joint (my girlfriend) for going travelling.
Ideally i dont want to pay it back for the next year or so... so thats my question!

Can i get a loan where you can have it now and pay later (in a year or more)??
If so where?

Thanks.

I think that might be difficult - you want someone to give you a substantial amount of money so you can disappear overseas? Hmm...:D

You may well have to put your travelling plans on hold until you've saved up some money yourself. I can't see many lenders willing to do what you've asked in the OP.

Why don't you put off your travelling plans as you clearly can't afford to go. Work and save hard for a year, then you will be able to go without the worry of how you are going to pay back what you have owed. What if you can't get a job etc - well on the way down the slippery slope to a lifetime of debt.

If your girlfriend has the money for herself to go, they wave goodbye for now and if your relationship is as good as you think it is (and it must be if you are prepared to put yourself in £20k of debt) you will see her either when she comes back or when you have saved enough to join her.

I cannot see where you would possibly get £20k unsecured with a one year payment holiday - these arrangements are generally only available where there is a substantial asset available to the lender such as a house and the loan is then secured on the asset.

Stop daydreaming and start working hard and saving!

Where on earth ar you going travelling for that sort of cash, I remember doing 5 months on less than a fifth of that - you need to drop expectations a bit if you don't hae the cash

Not a hope of getting this type of loan or even close to it.

You'd have to be on a great salary and have a brilliant and long credit history to get that type of loan and thats without the 12month repayment holiday. Some banks do a 3 month repayment break - Lloyds Loans offer this to customers through internet banking, but 12 months? No.

Also if you are planning a years travel, you probably dont have a job. No salary = no loan.

It's probably best you buy the joint once you arrive at your destination to avoid 'shipping' issues and potential imprisonment.
