Incorrect Pay..workers rights?

I've asked around already, and they all seem to be a bit hard up for cash at the moment. A days fare in London will cost me about a fiver just to get to work and back, I usually buy monthly. Paying £5 a day is just too expensive, unless my employers can reimburse me, which I doubt they will.0

it is true that universities usually have regular payment runs, and may only pay bills etc on a monthly payment run.
However, in a situation like this, there WILL be mechanisms for making emergency payments, even if it's just for temporarily reimbursing your travel expenses. Heck, that could probably come out of the departmental petty cash!
Phone the head of Personnel or whatever it's called - get all your colleagues to do the same - and also speak to your Head of Department. Do anything you can to avoid not turning up, but make sure that anyone who can do anything to put pressure on finance does so ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
There is no question but that the employer should put this situation right, and making an emergency transfer of money, even as a "sub" until the error is resolved and can be put right through normal payroll ought to be a relatively simple matter. Universtities certainly have the ability to do this, and it is simply rubbish to suggest that they can't alternatively make a cash payment or sub - universities are huge "trading concerns" and deal with substantial amounts of cash on a daily basis. Instead of talking to the Head of Service, have you actually talked to HR and explained your circumstances? It should not be difficult for them to resolve the matter, at least on a temporary basis. However, if you do not turn up for work on Wednesday the previous posters are correct - at the very least you will not be paid. That is hardly going to make matters better, as you will be "short" next month too when they don't pay you for the time you didn't work.0

I spoke HR they day I found out my payslip was incorrect, they said they couldnt do anything, until the correct documents were passed on to them from my department.
I have emailed my manager, for advice on what to do on Wednesday. At this rate it looks like I'll be walking to work in Central London:rotfl:0 -
While their systems may not let then 'correct' your wages immediately, they almost certainly have a procedure for giving you an emergency advance on next month's wages or maybe a cash imprest (this is what my employers call money in advance, supposedly to cover business expenses, but it might be stretched). These would give you a little breathing room while they sort their mess out.But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

I'm glad SarEl agrees with me ...
If you don't have a reply to your email by lunchtime, phone them. If your manager isn't in, keep taking it upwards: be polite but persistent, get the HoD's secretary on your side and this will be easier to fix ...collette87 wrote: »I spoke HR they day I found out my payslip was incorrect, they said they couldnt do anything, until the correct documents were passed on to them from my department.

If you knew you would get the money by the end of the week, could you afford to buy the monthly ticket on Wednesday? If you simply can't afford it, then buy a daily or weekly, and ask the dept to reimburse you for the difference between that and the average cost of daily journeys on a monthly ticket IYSWIM.
Also check that the information required has been passed on. HR are right in that if they don't have the information from the dept, they can't just act on your say-so, but you could ask them how quickly it could be sorted out if someone walked over from your dept to them with the necessary paperwork in their sticky hand.Signature removed for peace of mind0
