cheap and ethical: the joy of shopping at Co-op

Have just discovered my local Co-op, Archway, London, which has been revamped (OK 3 years ago but I'd never been in as it used to be so awful and then I left the area!!) and sells really good quality food as well as very cheap stuff. Grove Organic orange juice at £2.39 (£2.69 up the road in the posh shop in Highgate Village). And then I can get a dividend card and get Around £10.40 cash back if I spend £20 per week over the year. And then I can get it paid into my Cooperative Bank account, safe in the knowledge that my money is not being used to fund the arms trade etc. Give yours a try. They are not paying me to write this, although actually I suppose they are since all members get a share of the profits. You can become a member for £1.
Hurrah!

We have a co-op convienience store in our village. It's crap - overpriced and unless you want alcohol, fags, sweets or trashy magazines, it's more than likely they won't have it :mad:0

I don't suppose you know the website for the London Co-ops do you? I am moving to London in a few weeks (SE1) and as I prefer to eat organic foods I tried looking on the web to see if there are any Co-ops in the local area but I didn't have any joy.
Or alternatively, I don't suppose you know of any in the Southwark/SE1 area?
Hi Gizmoleeds. I'm a Co-op member. Try https://www.co-operative.co.uk or 0845 090 1456. That's the info listed in the latest mailing they sent recently.

No Co-op Foodstores in SE1, I'm afraid.
There's the very nice (but pricey) Borough Market for a special treat though.

I wouldn't use the terms 'Co-Op' and 'cheap' in the same sentence at all!
My local convenience store is a Co-Op and is waaay more expensive than the major supermarkets (3 within a mile). Probably costs less in petrol to nip to Asda and make the saving imo!0 -
I can vouch for their yummy fair trade cakes!!!
very scrummy :-):heart2:Mum to my little Daisy 3 and Archie 1.:heart2:0 -
Our local Metro got taken over by Co-Op - I was quite looking forward to the change, but everything went up in price!
And now they don't even sell noodles?!!0 -
There is a co-op store in Bermondsey, not sure if the postcode is SE1 or SE16 as these 2 postcodes merge at some point. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
gizmoleeds wrote:Thanks - I've tried their website but it doesn't have a 'store locator' tool like all the other supermarkets.
I might have to try phoning them I suppose. Thanks for the number.
(I won't ring now though, so if anyone has any other info please post)

I have a voucher from the paper for a free Pokemon dogtag at Co-Op. However, do you think they will let me use it without being a member?0
