Who else does this?

I'm going away tommorow for three weeks & today,I looked in all the cupboards.Rather than throw thing's out,I gave what I had'nt used to my neighbour below.
I gave him:

1/2 pack spuds,
Milk
1/4 box cereal
4 eggs
3/4 loaf

Did'nt give him the nearly full bottle cider,I'll sup that tonight!:rotfl:

So,just out of interest, does anyone else do this when they go away?

Yep! I try to arrange my shopping and buying so that I use perishables up before I go, but if not I'd much rather give them away than chuck them out the day I get back. My next door neighbour would be happy take it all off my hands, along with anything that became ready to pick in my garden while I was away. She sadly passed away yesterday and it's little things like this that make me realise just how much I'll miss her.

    Rest in peace, Irene.

If we're going away any perishables we give to our neighbour..........in turn, if she's going on holiday she gives hers to us.:)

I do this. If there is going to be any perishable food (that I can't freeze or use up) I pass it on to neighbours or colleagues at work. I also do this with things I buy and either don't like or where I've bought too much and I can't use all of it. I'm sorry to hear about your neighbour, Silvercharming.

    Hi all,

Yup, I have a reciprocal agreement with my Mum LOL!

I planned badly the last time, and she got all kinds of fresh veg, over a pint of milk, half a loaf and half a dozen eggs. I'm sure I'm missing stuff too!

Its nice to do that though, in return she has a loaf, milk and sometimes bacon waiting when we get home, and we do the same for them.

I'd do the same, but would have frozen the bread and the milk - they'd come in handy when you get back - especially the bread - saves you having to go shopping!

The bread and milk I would have put in the freezer for when I got back.. eggs I'd have eaten today.. but I would have offered the others to my son rather than a neighbour.. but the sentiment is the same.. so yes..

I give friends anything that will not survive my trip and also give them free range on anything growing that is ripe. In return they water the plants for me which is smashing. Reading this made me wish my neighbours were more.....neighbourly. Perhaps I should try and initiate that
