Spurious default on credit
Having recently been declined for a loan, I signed up to access my credit reports on Experian & Equifax only to find there is a default on my record(s) from a company I have never heard of. Upon checking, this relates to a car insurance renewal in February 2003.
I received a renewal quote from my broker, which stated that because I had previously paid monthly, a loan of £732.18 had been secured on my behalf and paid to the broker. Due to the heavily inflated premiums, I declined the renewal quote, did not sign the acceptance form or the direct debit agreements & still retain original copies of all documentation.
It seems that the finance company concerned have registered this default against me - however, I did not receive the monies, my car was never insured by the broker & they admitted in writing that they had received the money.
Two questions - How can this default be registered against me ? And secondly, how can I get this judgement removed from the record ?
