Amex copy wage slips etc

Hi
Amex are asking me to send copies of wage slips and council tax bills, mortgage statements and utility bills - Do I have to send these ?? are there any hidden drawbacks to letting them have this info or is it okay to send (they have already had my budget sheet )

Thanks

Definitely do not send stuff like this, if you have sent a budget sheet that should be sufficient, only a court of law can demand this sort of disclosure, Amex certainly can't, they are out of order, again.

They can ask to see whatever they want. You do not however need to provide any of that - only a court can order you to produce these things. If you have provided them with an expenditure/budget sheet, that is all you really need to do. They will possibly try to offer you alternative financial products, tell you that they disagree with how much you can put towards the debt - all these things have happened before and it is just a means of putting pressure on you.

You've told them the situation and how much you can afford to give them each month. They don't need to like it.

Thanks for your reply, In their letter they say they will only consider stopping interest rates etc and accepting repayment plan if I send this stuff - I will just re-send another budget sheet with another token payment and see what happens then

    Thanks

Legally you do not have to send them more than a budget sheet, but equally legally they do not have to stop charges and interest. it really is good will on both sides.

It is up to you what you decide to do.

  • Hi this problem is rearing its head again, amex have now sent me a letter saying they want £27 per month but If I send them all the info they require i.e. copy bills, wages slips, mortgage statements etc they will consider a lower amount, If I do not do this they will pass to a debt collection agency. Do I stand firm and keep sending the token payment without all the stuff they're asking for - I already have defaults on my credit file so Im not bothered about another one from them. If they pass to a DCA do I then send the token payment to them ??

Thanks for the advice, think that's just what I will do :j
  • Hi

As Dark Convict has said, it is good will on both sides but having been in the same situation with Halifax and feeling uncomfortable letting them see so much of my own personal information, I would agree with the previous poster and hold out letting them pass to a DCA, it will more than likely be RMA, who I haven't had a problem with.

but if you dont send them, they are highly unlikely to accommodate your requests, and could cancel your card and demand any monies owed, as they are entitled to do. be careful.

Hi as previous poster has said closing your account and demanding money owed but if im mis informed they will default close your account and pass you to a DCA who will demand your money you send them your SOA (same probs with Capital One)and then pay them your offer anyway
