Credit File...

I defaulted on a loan back on the 21st July 2004. I have since settled the outstanding balance, however, I have a query regarding when the default will come off my credit file.

My understanding is that any defaults stay on your credit file for 6 years regardless of whether you settle or not. With that in mind, I'm hoping that the default for the loan will come off this month on the 21st July....Can anyone out there clarify? Also, if it does come off, will it do so automatically or will I have to contact Experian myself? Hope it does come off this month as that will mean I have a clean credit file :j

Look forward to hearing from you!

Indeed, it will automatically be removed, you don't need to do anything :)

You might consider getting a copy of your file a few days after just to check and set your mind at rest.
