The last year of our front and rear garden in pictures! Timeline!
Hi guys,
I recently included some pics of development of our garden but not in full so hear it is right up until last weekend. We bought the house in July 2009 so it's 11 months work. As you can see it was literally a blank canvas so it's taken a fair amount of work by myself and my wife but both really enjoyed it! It's been a steep learning curve but luckily Lowri's father works is a Dr for Kew Gardens so has given advice and some thoughts.
Thanks for all the posts/help/knowledge I have gained through this forum, it's brilliant
Hope you like the picsand if you have any questions I'll try and answer.
Excuse the large amount as well
On the second viewing of property

Dec snowfalls in Cardiff

I spent 2 days making a veg patch and digging turf up to make beds! 2 tonnes of top soil

Bare greenhouse!

Crazy paving and mega weeds!

Spring time and Alfie enjoying a rest!

Beginning of veg patch in Apr 2010

Spring bed

my soppy dog!

Back 'summer' bed at the end of the lawn. Circle of seedlings is the wildflower seeds we had as favours at our wedding in 2008.

Wild flowers (cornflowers) in full flow. June '10. The poppies have since emerged.

Rose bush given to us as a wedding present. Nearly died in a pot but doing well now.

Wildflower patch up close!

Lovely sweet peas

First of a ridiculous number of tomatoes that are coming our way!

Butterfly lavendar

Courgette plant. One of two and they are now rediculously big!

Lillies grown from bulb

Marigolds on their way!

Bit overcrowded I'd say! Now thinned out and planted

Purple Hebes attracting bees

A lot more green in the patch and greenhouse since April!

Me last Sat taking on the crazy paving!

My legend of a neighbour helping me out with the laying of turf

Bye crazy paving, hello lush grass! Watering it 3x per day now. The patch on the left of grass is going to be 'shingled' as car tyres sometimes go on it. Poss some light coloured smart looking stuff. Will head to Wickes after work today.

Pre BBQ with a couple of friends last weekend. Note the brown lawn! Hasn't rained here properly for months it feels! Don't normally have table on lawn etc!

Rear bed topped up with bedding plants

More red and yellow in wildflower patch

Dhalias from seed on their way!

First beetroot and courgette from garden!

Oh boy, I really, really enjoyed that and it's lifted my heart.
To see your garden transformed from a boring barren patch into a a place full of life, colour, food, flowers and eye catching wonders has been magical. You've also put across something to the new gardeners in a way that I can't - and that is that (unlike the garden makeover shows) you need to take your time and take on manageable tasks. You need to take stock, live with your garden for a bit and then plunge in with some ideas.
You've done it in less than a year - and that's a credit to your hard work and your flair for putting plants together.
You wouldn't like to move next door to me, would you? I'd love to be able to peek over your fence and talk to you about what you've got, where and how you're going to keep up the good work.
Thank you so much for those inspiring photos - you've given me an idea for a wildflower patch!0 -

Wow, thanks for posting such a lovely series of photos - you told us a story in pictures! I remember your thread regarding your front garden and the crazy paving. It looks so different now, definitely a change for the better. Well done.
It's great to see the before and after pictures. We moved into our house last September and we also have loads of 'before' pictures, with plenty of others taken at stages along the way. I'll have to put them on a thread at some point.
All your hard work is very ispirational, thanks"Your life is what your thoughts make it"
