Avoid Wolseley, they're incompetent

I recently ordered a 4 piece china pack (loo and sink) from https://www.discountedbathrooms.com. Got an email back from them saying it would be delivered a week later on the 28th between 8am and 4pm, and if it had not arrived by 2pm give them a call.

Well by 2pm on Monday nothing had arrived, so I called them. They spoke to their delivery people and told me 'its on its way'. However there was no delivery that day...

On Tuesday I waited in all day and mid afternoon a car drew up outside and out jumped a guy with a box. It was the toilet seat... when I asked where the rest of the delivery was he appeared baffled, called his office and said there had been a mix up and they would deliver the sink, pedestal and cistern on Wednesday morning, but the pan would not be available until Wednesday afternoon. I suggested that they deliver it all in one go, he said he'd tell the office that.

Well Wednesday came and late afternoon a Wolseley van drew up with the sink, pedestal and cistern but no pan. I called discountedbathrooms again, they say Wolseley had a computer error and it will be delivered this afternoon.

The discountedbathrooms folks have been very helpful and apologetic, but in future I can't say I'd use them again as dealing with their suppliers, Wolseley (parent company of e.g. Plumb Center, Bathstore etc) is a joke.

Wolseley is one of, if not the biggest supplier/distributor of plumbing supplies in the UK.

Because of the volume of their supplies there are bound to be a larger number of mistakes. But hopefully a lower percentage.

However, are you saying discountedbathrooms are completely without blame because that is what they told you?


I think if you rang Wolseley they may have a different take on the matter.

Perhaps you should call them.

Difficult as I didn't have an order number with them - only discountedbathrooms.

Previously I had ordered a shower enclosure from discountedbathrooms, it was supplied by the manufacturer (Romans) who not only delivered when they said they would, they even called in advance to let me know the time of the delivery.

I would say its more likely to be the fault of the ordering process of discountedbathrooms or a member of their staff than Worseley.

But that is just my opinion.

I ordered the materials for a brick garage through Wolseley. Not only were they the cheapest builders merchant, they delivered on the days I instructed them to and everything went completely without problems.

Well maybe I was just unlucky. But having to wait at home for 4 days now for Wolseley to deliver an order bit by bit does not make me want to risk ordering anything else via them.

It will be interesting to hear other peoples opinions.

I have limited experience of the Plumb Centre myself but the only thing bad I have heard about them is that they can be more than a little pricey.

Oh, that & the fact that they have a car in the reception area of the HQ.

Latest update: Wolseley delivered the toilet pan. I took a close look at it and it has a couple of cracks in it (apart from being filthy and not in any packaging whatsoever). Called their office, they will have to order a new one and said they will deliver next Wednesday. Aaargh.
