I wanna buy a laptop

I’m enquiring on behalf of my brother who is after a new laptop. I’ve had a look and the best one I can find (or at least I think it’s the best one) at a fairly good price is the Toshiba Satellite Laptop L500-1XC which is being sold at John Lewis, the current price is £399.
Can anyone recommend this or a better one? His budget is between £300 & £400.
Thanks

Take a look at this one. Its £17 more but twice as good ( but they do charge for delivery I think). I have bought many laptops from this site and can highly recommend them. This has a DVD re-writer also. This site ususally has good offers on. Ask them if they will throw in a free bag and mouse (they usually do).
Its a Lenovo G550 Laptop and it is on sale at

They update the site daily and usually have better offers on. Call and ask if they have any refurbished (as new) laptops. They might have box damage but they are fine and come with a warranty.0 -
noodle, that laptop's sold out but even if it wasn't it comes with Vista which is one of Microsoft's worst operating systems. Yes it has a better processor but a smaller hard drive. Plus they get very poor reviews for customer service.
Lugh, I think you've made a very good choice there. It may need more memory at a later time but that's easy to fit. I think you'd be best sticking with this one rather than the 4GB model at £450.0 -
Thanks Coopdivi, I was thinking I wasn’t going to get a reply to my query for a while there, checked this thread a few times today after posting last night.
I thought the Toshiba L500-1XC laptop was a good one alright though I thought I’d get others opinions as I’m enquiring for someone else.
If anyone else can give their opinions then that would also be gratefully received.
Thanks again0 -
Hi I have been looking for a laptop for my daughter and have seen a Toshiba Satellite L350D at Play.com for £349.99 http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/-/654/861/-/12090209/Toshiba-Satellite-L350D-216-17-inch-AMD-Athlon-X2-QL-65-2-1GHz-3GB-320GB-DVD-SM-17-Windows-7-Home-Premium-Laptop-Notebook-PSLE4E-0/Product.html?searchtype=genre
Does anybody have any reviews or thoughts on this ?0 -
Its because I can't dend the link. That laptop comes with windows 7 not vista. How do I send a PM?
Go to the website. hover over Laptops then lenonvo, then value series. its in there. Loads in stock and with widows 7 basic!
As I say I've got loads of laptops from there and I have no complaints. I have had one acer form there for 5 years now. Acer warranties are a nightmare. You have to register and then call them and cheack its registered and get it in writing but Lenovo are fine. I ought one for my sister and my girlfriend. Both are heavy users. One is a teacher and one takes it to and from work everyday and has a 3 year old boy!
I'd get a Lenovo. 4GB of ram extra thats a massive saving and means the laptop will last years. You always get an external hard drive or use DVD which you can rip on the Lenove but you can't rip nothing on the Toshiba.
If you put this into google its the first hit.

and the Hard Drive is 500g!0 -
Thanks will check this one out.
This is some of the info I got from AV Forums about the Toshiba L500-1XC:What will the laptop be used for?
Just basic use, internet, some office etc?
I would go for the one from JL over the other one, but it depends if screen size is important? The first is better spec but the second comes with a bigger screen and graphics - which would be of some help depending on gaming.
The second laptop that this poster is mentioning is the one posted by Tanya, the Toshiba L350D.
&Well I've only had a quick look as I'm about to shoot off to bed, but that looks like a really good price for the laptop, I know there are some Dells for sub £400 but the processor in the one from JL is better than the ones in the Dells.
I'll post back tomorrow if I have a look and find anything worth mentioning, I'm sure others will post if they have any suggestions too
Will see what they say about the Lenovo G550, if I get a reply that is.0 -
I got the Toshiba L500-1XL from Bestbuys for £249 if your near to one?0

Thanks Matt, the nearest Best Buy from my brother is in Croydon unfortunately, approximately 80 miles away. I could have a word with him about this though.
Thanks again0 -
I don't know if this will help But I have just ordered this HP via Quidco, http://h40059.www4.hp.com/uk/homelaptops/product.php?id=VY364EA&experience=direct&tduid=06e0a086fad49f45da90e10a6558ab20&tduid=0fabcec4717ffc541f109088ef2200e6
It's £449.00 less £35.92 (Quidco 8%) They are offering £100 off a used laptop as long as you have the original receipt for it & laptop bag n Mouse
For me that equates to £314 delivered next working day and in stock. The spec is pretty good as you will see including The latest Intel® Core™ i3-330M Processor
Have a look I hope it helps you find what your looking for
If youcan lie down at night knowing in your heart that you just made someone’s day just a little bit better, you know you had a good day!!0
