Dealing with Defaults
Options
Maybe not the correct forum to put this question on, but I'll give it a shot anyway...
I defaulted on a loan when I was an errant student - default notice filed 5 years ago. I have since been repaying that loan off regularly every month without fail for years. I've just done a credit check however, and it's still coming up as a default....causing my credit score to be very very low (1 star) despite perfect credit history with 7 other providers.
Would putting a note on the credit file explaining that the mistake (while genuine) was one of a hard up and money-naive student, and that I am now more than capable of repaying debts (as other history shows), help at all do you think?
Any comments / thoughts appreciated

Doubt adding a note will help.
As its now 5years old it won't be having as much of an impact as it used to. Especially if you are managing other credit well.
The default will go 6years from the date of default - not much longer to wait.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
