I noticed recently at the bottom of a Lakeland bag that it states "if you go instore you can ask for the bag to be replaced" - this fact makes the Lakeland bag a free bag for life! 
My advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience.

In fairness I must add that I bought something from Lakeland when they gave me a bag, however the bag was at no cost. I'm sure you could walk in the shop and ask for a bag since the bag is only the usual plastic carrier bag. They can only say yes or no.My advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience.0

Lakeland bags always used to be really strong with handles- just like the supermarket 'bags for life'. If you order from them by mailorder you obviously don't get the free bags!!Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!
