Whats the best way to handle this please?

DD has worked at a pub for the last 10 months. When she first applied the job was advertised as 16+ hours.
On many occcasions she has only had 8-10 hours work in a week, although sometimes gets 20.

She's recently had a nasty illness that resulted in her feeling very low. Her doctor signed her off sick for 4 weeks.
She gave her manager 2 weeks notice of her return to work and provided a fit note.
They won't allow her to come back until she's had a back to work interview, yet are saying they don't have time to do it before Friday, so she'll have no shifts for this week.

Surely this isn't fair or right?

Also, everyone- thats staff AND customers, have been informed of her reasons for being off sick and some have even seen the sick note. Can they do this?
The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter :(

Regarding disclosing to all and sundry about the reasons for her time off, no. A back to work interview is normal and if they don't have the time to do it until Friday, then there's not a lot that can be done to change that.

Regarding the varying hours, are her hours set in a contract?

If she has a 0 hours contract then there is not alot she can do regarding the lack of hours, if she is contracted to 16 hours then she should be getting 16 hours.
The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!

4 people on the ignore list....Bliss!
  • Thanks, i'm just waiting for her to come home so we can look at her contract.

Re: the sick note, What happens about that? I see Hammyman says they can't show it, but i doubt theres much that can be done, right?
