i had a load from provident ages ago and if i remember right you have a 7 days grace period, ie you can take a loan out and repay it back any time with in those 7 days and all you pay back is the borrowed amount, after that i think you have to pay back the borrowed plus the interest

Provident will give you an interest rebate for settling the loan early but it is alot of money that they end up charging you for the sake of a month. Are you registered with freecycle my local one has had three fridge/freezers offered this week alone all you have to do is collect them its all free. They may not be what you want but they would be ok for a month whilst you get your money together :-)

If you took out the provident loan then on the paperwork would be written the amount to settle at certain time periods.
I second the idea of freecycle or freegle as it is in my area.
Are you able to get a social fund loan?
This will be chepaer than a provident loan.
If you do have to borrow from Provident, perhaps you could call the head office and speak to someone there that may be able to provide you some more information.

Good luck with whatever route you choose.

by things breaking down or need replacing or by having very young children that cost alot to look after, food, clothes which children seem to out grow faster than you can buy them, child care fees if the parents are working, could be a single mother on low income

so its very easy to spend more than your income

Not if you don't have children it isn't. You make it sound like you didn't have any choice in the manner. I'd love a baby; we're skint though, so no chance.

yes it is 7 days cooling off period for provident and greenwood..........join freecycle, u just never know....why dont u try and get/borrow one of those tiny little fridges (u know for bedrooms etc) just for ur milk & butter...if ur gonna have the £ in 3 weeks anyway i wd wait...i mean this advice with the best of intentions.....cant u beg/borrrow a shot of a wash machine every couple of days or use a laundrette...try and re-use clothes for a day or 2...if u have to, steep a load overnight in ur bath and they shouldnt need too much scrubbing in the morning, not gr8 long term but for 2 or 3 weeks? just trying to help u save £££

try argos, a lot of ppl managing to get an argos card, its worth a try? or https://www.homeshoppingdirect.co.uk, prices quite high but again pay off quickly, or even try lookagain.co.uk and then try and pay it back b4 the interest run out period.....x

Provident and all other lenders are required by law to allow you to repay the whole loan amount at any time. If you do so they are entitled to charge you one month's interest beyond the settlement date and if the original loan term was for more than a year, an additional month. You'll pay about £58 plus the payments until 22 July if the original loan term is up to a year, twice that if it's a year or longer.

You should visit LendersCompared to see whether you can find a better deal. This is the site that was set up as a result of an Office of Fair Trading investigation into the doorstep lending market, to help consumers find their best available deal for loans of this type.
