i have been trying to get a unsecured loan for about £15k over ten years, i have made several enquiries over the net, i sent for a credit history from experian when i received it i was shocked to find 33 searches 18 of these i dont recognise the names of and also did not authorise any searches by these companies, experian say that you have to get back to the company and ask them to remove the search. what else can i do, i got a credit report from equifax about a week ago and had hardly any searches on that.

experian are the main searches of loans, however the best thing to do is before applying ask which reference agency they use. just to advise that for every 3 months you apply for credit it knocks your credit score down slighlty and every 3 months you dont it goes up a little so this has a huge affect on creditors decisions. you can either do what they said and call them all or dispute them with the agencies and they will check them for you its the best way to rule out identity theft.
