Just when you think your turning the corner....

Well, wiped off £4,000 of my debt today by selling my car. So hey, reasonable start to the day!

Anyway, went over to see the missus, came out and found a parking fine on my car for £80. Yes, £80. The signs have been up for months (about 5/6 now) but theres never been a warden come round and everybody else parks as normal. There's never been any literature about how to gain a permit or that one is even required!!!!!

So completely out of the blue today, a warden comes round and I'm stuffed. The £4k I raised from the car has to go straight to paying off the finance and my bank account is already low. No way can I afford £80.

Do I have any right to appeal on the grounds that i was never offered a permit, never seen any literature on it, and that the signs have been up for months without anyone coming round. Its also the only place to park for the flats, and the landlady had told us thats where to park. I really need to clear this. What a downer after a good start to the day.

You will struggle to argue the point if you tell them you saw the signs months earlier and didn't heed them.
80 quid sounds a bit steep though. Is there not a footnote that says it is half price if paid inside a fortnight?

My very dearest got a parking ticket outside my house for not displaying a visitors permit she arrived on Friday night after the council office was closed (untill Monday) and got the ticket Saturday morning. When I rang to ask how she was meant to display a visitors permit when one was not available I was told she should have put a note in the window. This made me ask why there was the need for a visitors permit system if a note will do. They couldn't answer and cancelled the ticket.

If you can argue alnong the same lines you might have a chance of getting the fine quashed.

    Good luck and keep battling.

I'll send the appeal letter off on Monday. Its £80 if paid within 7 days, and £120 after that. Ridiculously steep.
