Job offer, When to hand in notice?

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone could help me with my situation, it may turn out a bit long winded so I'm sorry in advance!
I've been with my current employer in a fixed term position for 7 months and am on extended probation until mid August (not for any misconduct or 'bad work' reasons).
I've just been offered a permanent position with another company and informed them I would need to give 4 weeks notice to my current employer (states in contract and wish to honour it as I've always believed this is the right way, plus any reference I could get would be a bonus)
This is the tricky part...
I'm on holiday for 2 weeks at the end of July, and then would hope to start the new job on 2nd August... If I hand in my notice this Friday (2nd July) that takes me up to the 30th which would be fine in normal circumstances... however I'm just wondering would they tell me that I may as well finish this Friday? if I'm only FTA and away for 2 weeks of the month?...and are they allowed to do this? (i know they won't be recruiting so would not be finding anyone to fill the space)
Just worried as August is a busy month family and birthday wise that I wouldn't be able to miss out on that months pay! (I wouldn't get paid for half the holiday as I know already I would have gone over my holiday entitlement for the part year- as opposed to if I was staying and working the whole year with them) so those 3 weeks of pay would really come in handy especially after this holiday.
Wages are paid last day of the month, incase this info helps, so wages are obviously 1st month 'til 30th/31st of each month.
Any help would be greatly appreciated...
If i didn't make sense then I'll try to clarify things further, hope I've put in everything that would help!
Apologies for the essay as well!
Thanks a lot!

If you give 4 weeks notice in accordance with your contract then that is the notice - they cannot lawfully finish you earlier. But be careful. Some employers do not permit leave to be taken in the notice period so you need to check your contractual conditions.
I shouild have added (so I am doing it now) that you cannot take holiday if you haven't accrued it and also be paid for it! So if your two weeks holiday includes any "credit" for holiday then you won't get paid for that.0 -
I knew that about the holiday as such so would understand them not paying me for the few days or however much I am over.
There is nothing that states holiday during notice period in my contract, just that if I have exceeded the amount of annual leave earned then any overpayment will be recovered from final salary.0
