The £1635 fee is very steep.
I got a 7-year fix from Abbey around 8 months ago at 5.39% (85% LTV). Fee was £125 I think, but then I was an existing customer.
I wanted a 7 year fix as I had in my mind that in around 5 years, interest rates could be quite high and I didn't want to be worrying about rates for a good while as we've just started a family. Trying to predict base rates that far ahead is pretty impossible though...0
