Pizza with anchovies

Options
Hi all,:)

I've been reading you for some time, but never posted here before.
Right now I'm very disappointed with myself :(: I made pizza with anchovies for lunch (for the first - and perhaps the last - time ever), and it was soooo salty, that we hardly ate it.:o Hubby - otherwise an unconditional fan of HM pizza - struggled to eat two small slices.:o I knew anchovies were salty, but gosh, I didn't know they were sooo salty - hardly edible, judging from my family's reaction to them. I thought if I put them in water and leave them like this for some time, the salt would go away, but it obviously did not.

Maybe I should have poached the anchovies in milk before using (like I sometimes do with salmon and haddock)? What do you think? Any tips for dealing with anchovies? Please please help!

Many thanks:A

  • I generally soak mine in water too. I don't find them too salty, but I don't put many on. You can buy anchovies packed in oil - more expensive but possibly less salty ?

Thanks for your quick reply thriftlady.:T Mine were packed in oil in a jar, and bought from Asda (quite expensive indeed). Well, I hate to say this, but I've used the whole jar in the process (110g, 65g drained weight) - maybe this is why the pizza was so salty? Oh dear...:o :o:o

  • I think you've got your answer:D I use just 4-5 at the most. Tear them up to evenly distribute the flavour.;)

Yes, I agree, I would use three or maybe four chopped and dotted around a 16 inch pizza.
Just run, run and keep on running!

MBN I see from your profile you say San Diego, here I come. Is that to live, or visit? I ask because my son lived in the area for over 3 years! I absolutely love it there. So cosmopolitan, yet sooo laid back!!!! He's not there anymore, but I still want to go back again.

    Hi Churchmouse,:)

I looove San Diego!:j Hubby and I went to the US in March. Spent more than 2 weeks in Washington, and only 4 days in San Diego - oh, how I wish it had been different.;) We absolutely loved San Diego - so sunny, so friendly, so different from DC. We hope we'll be able to visit it again next spring. Hubby is also seriously thinking about us starting a new life over there - we haven't made up our minds yet though.;)

    You're so right, San Diego is a great city!:j :j :j Hope you'll visit it again soon.:A
