Already paid debt????

Options
Hi there,

I really need help with this one. I have received a letter from Fredrickson International about a previous Littlewoods account, they are saying I owe £500+, I am sure I paid this off about 3 years ago, this letter has come totally out of the blue!
I dont have any paperwork or proof of paying this off previously, what do I do?!!!!

You should keep all proof of the debt for 6 years. Anything over 6 years is statute barred and not repayable.
Dig around and see what you can find, did you clear the balance, or make a settlement offer. If it was a settlement you really need the letter as the terms of the settlement can vary. Some only mean pay a lump sum now and we won't bother you (although this does not stop the remainder been sold to someone else).

For now, send this letter as a reply (Prove It) - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=11570893&postcount=2

Might be tough without having some proof - do you think you paid off th debt to Littlewoods, fredrickson or a different DCA?
If you have just had this first letter from them so far then your first response should be to send the prove it letter. Might also be worth getting copies of your credit files to see if this debt shows and shows as settled, if it does it would be worth keeping a copy of this safe (in case they try to change your file at a later date).
