Hi Guys
I'm planning to try and drastically reduce my food bill. I have wrote out a meal plan for the next two weeks. And am planning to head along to either Aldi or Lidl today or tomorrow.
Where would you recommend Aldi or Lidl???
thanks

I like Lidl better but still need to pick things up from other places too (but not every week) I used to go to Aldi all the time but prefer Lidl now as its cheaper and very good quality. Depends which is nearer to you and what sort of things you like to eat

Hi shelly,
There are many threads on Aldi and Lidl on the Shop but don't drop board so I'll move your thread over there. This recent thread in particular, might help you: Aldi or Lidl? Which is better?
It might also help to have a look at Martins Article Lidl Aldi and Netto the lowdown which publishes the results of one of the recent 'Great Hunt' threads.

I'm a lidl fan personally, especially since fruit & veg are currently 1/2 price in the South East area.0

I'm a recent convert to Lidl's & would recommend you try it for your first visit, especially as previous poster mentions the current offer of half price fruit & veg.
I understand from a member of staff that the offer should run for at least the next 2weeks.The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
I go to both. This site has saved me a fortune :money: ...it's also cost me a fortune!

Any chance you can go to both shops? That way you'll get the best offers from both!0

Both Lidl and Aldi have their own websites with there current special offers and up coming special offers posted. But I think both stores offer good products and different items from the usual Big 4 just to ring the changes. But make sure that if you buy everyday products that you can't pick them up bogoff at the Big 4 also. But I think you need to get familar with the stock too. PS. Don't forget Farmfoods in your trek they are fantastic for some things.DTD - Doing Tesco Daily - while I still have vouchers!0

They're both good for their own items.
If you read up on other posts, people will say how much they saved against Sainsburys. Whilst this is true, the savings aren't as much as you might expect because:
1) You may have previously shopped at ASDA or Tesco who are both good at bringing prices down (ASDA slightly better than Tesco).
2) Sainsbury's prices have also come down in recent years - they were very expensive about 5 years ago.
3) Customer Service levels and store investment has increased at ALDI/LIDL over the years.
They're still very good though. I don't go to them unless I happen to be picking up electrical items on offer as I have a Sainsburys and ASDA on my doorstep. I tend to go to ASDA for my main shop and go to Sainsburys for a mid-week shop and pick up a few BOGOFs.

To really make savings I would never do all my shopping in one place. Stick to a list because lidl and aldi have all sorts of wonderful and weird gadgets and special offers to tempt you...
Lidl is best near xmas, goose, duck, stollen, baileys like drink, mulled wine...Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Go to both, definitely - they've both got specialties that the other doesn't do, or do as well. For instance, I prefer Aldi's shower gels but Lidl's bath foam. Lidl does much nicer ham, but Aldi often has better wine. Definitely sign up for the newsletter on both websites, and if there's a Netto near you, sign up for and try that too.
As a general rule, the quality of their stuff is much better than UK supermarkets because rules about food labelling are tougher on the continent.0
