Job Offer

Hi,
I have a few questions regarding a job offer.
When i applied for the job the salary was advertised as a negoitable, i have now recieved a job offer and been given a salary... The salary is only very slightly above my prequalification placement wage and I would like to negotiate this so it was a wee bit higher.
It also states two different sets of conflicting hours of work. I would like to ask to have these clarified.
I also would like to know if there is anywere I can get an indication of what pay I should be expecting... The role is a trainee supply chain coordinator and is based in Belfast Northern Ireland. I also would like to know what the structure is in terms of does my pay go up after an inital training period, how long that period is and what the pay would increase to.
Are these acceptable questions? should i put them in email or letter? Is there anything else i should clarify before signing the contract.
Sorry for the long post!
Thanks,
Jemma

Congratulations! :T
Having now received the offer, you are in a strong negotiating position. However, it's a junior role so I'd advise some good research and not going in too hard. Supply chain management is the kind of field where some good early experience can really pay dividends later on.
These are all relevant questions. I'd suggest responding that you are delighted to receive the offer, are keen to accept, however have some questions you would like clarified. Is the person available for a 20 minute meeting, short phone call? (I always find negotiating easier - and more productive!-face to face). If you really can't stomach a meeting or call, then go for email.
Googling the position might bring up some benchmark info for the position, but as I'm sure you'll know salaries differ greatly between industries and regions. You should be able to get enough background to know the parameters.
I do get annoyed when candidates push too much - who think they are worth far more than is realistic when in reality, at junior levels have yet to prove that worth. However, I am won over by candidates who are enthusiastic about my company, about the experience on offer, and developing a career with us. I'm much more likely to make an enhanced offer to the second group.
Best of luck!0 -
Hi Cazzieboo, thank you so much for the reply. If possible, if i drafted an email/letter would you consider reading it as you seem experienced in this field and hopefully could give me some pointers. I would like to accept the role, but feel as it was advertised as negoitable i would like to try to enhance the renumeration! I know the experience will stand me in good stead and I will work hard, or if I was aware that after an initial x months I would jump a payscale that information would help.Mortgage - 05/03/10
