Well, after everyones helpful tips I have reduced outgoings where I can and proceeded with a DMP with the help of CCCS.
Initial letter has been sent and am concerned as to whether they will agree to my proposal, but I can only afford what I can afford right?
Have also sent off some reclaim letters to previous loan and credit card companies to see what I can claw back.
Will be doing a boot sale at weekend in order to clear out clutter which will unlikely sell on ebay, as well as raise some funds.
The next big step is to then start preparing house in order to sell, although somewhat concerned with talk of another house price slump and how this will reduce equity in the property. Any thoughts as to the best/quickest/easiest way to sell a property without losing too much money on it?0 -
Hi just a thought. What did you spend 57000 on?
Could you not sell whatever it was and put that towards paying the debt off.0 -
TITEASSCRAMP, not sure whether your having a dig or not but your comment is not found to be very helpful.
Many people on here, including me, have made financial mistakes and sometimes things such as redundancy, etc, cannot be helped. I've mentioned selling things on ebay and at bootsales, but other things such as education fees, holidays, nights out, etc, cannot be sold. Additionally, 57k was not whats been spent but the figure after ridiculous amounts of interest have been added.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing, and I will learn and move on from this, but if your looking to make smart*rse comments please take them elsewhere. Thanks.0 -
Hi mike dont think any harm is meant maybe they thought you had some big items to sell that could help reduce the debt.... keep up the good work and keep plugging away
all the best x

Wasnt a dig at all. I meant if you had spent it on any big purchases like expensives tv's or expensive furniture, laptops etc could they not be sold. I know ppl who have spend 3k on tvs.
Also maybe a thought if you have a contract mobile, could you not sell that? My husbands is on contract but retails for £350. If you did you could buy a £10 payg one.

Ok thanks, little bit down at the moment what with change in job, lower salary and mountain of debt to tackle.
Need some of whatever is motivating you Happytogetdebtfree, you are chopping away at the debt, whereas I feel like I am not even making a dent.0 -
Hi Mike just a thought, no-one has mentioned the old style board for groceries yet. £200 per month is great but I've seen people on here say they can do it cheaper so you might get some good ideas off there if you take a look.0

Thanks PennyP, will have a look.
Forgot to mention that I have started to walk part of my journey to and from work. This will save me around £40.00 per month to my fare....trouble is it makes me even hungrier! Also, not sure what it will be like when the bad weather comes round, but will make the most of it for now.0 -
Do you have a local car club? Or a cheap hire company? If you didn't need it every weekend you might save money that way- though it wouldn't increase your no claims unfortunately! But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.
