Welcome Car Finance - ahem
Options
So I'm in work and get a letter posted on Friday saying sorry missed you please contact from some random number.
I ring and it was a company coming to reposses my car as I'd missed a payment previously, even though i'd paid my instalments since..
I'd received no notification, and to top it off they said they can't take the car off private property which at the moment as me and my wife have moved into my parents home, (well we renting off them as they have emigrated semi/retired) it would have been on the drive. So what was the point of them turning up unannounced?
Can Welcome do this?

unless its locked behind a gate they can remove it, its just like the postman dropping by. If you can prove you made the payment speak to welcome.0

I have to disagree with the above PNP
Private property is exactly that and would need a court order to remove/ uplift.
OP did they send you a default notice and or a termination notice before trying to take the car?
When did you get the car and have you paid off more than a third?Karma - the consequences of ones acts."It's OK to falter otherwise how will you know what success feels like?"1 debt v 100 days £20000 -
If they can see and touch their property (e.g the car) they can reposess it. Show me where in the law it states they cant.0

They would have to open my gates and come onto my drive, they said they sent a letter in April .. they been trying to ring me onmy mobile and couldn't get a hold of me, they also got my works number. So i asked them why didnt they ring that or if they not heard off me send another letter, considering they've had payments since? as I would be a bit concerned to no response..
They said it's out of their hands now, so I asked who's hands is it in then, so I can deal with them instead.. they then said "well it is still in the office here" Jeez make your mind up and stoplying i thought. I'd even spoke to them since to change my address after I moved recently and spoke to the staff there and yet they seem to deny knowledge of speaking to me..
I really wish I hadn't got the car with them.. desperate measures i guess. Not had the car long enough to play games with them and i don't want too... I need the car and will pay the arrears, just like to have had more notice!!
I'm gonna put things in writing to them as it's a nitemare on the phone as they make stuff up... and ask them to break down arrears and then do a payment plan to repay.
My fault I know, but they just can't be straight with people.
btw, I changed my mobile number, so they would have just got dead line..... so I wasn't ignoring calls.0 -
How many payments did you miss?
Did you contact them at all when you missed the payment/s?Future Mrs Gerard Butler

[/STRIKE] I meant Team Matt......obviously :cool:0 -
so you changed your number - did you tell them? if not, then they could (quite rightly ) assume that you were avoiding contact.
Finance companies try to avoid calling work numbers as it just causes hassle.
You say that you haven't had the car long enough to 'play games with them' by this i take it to mean that
1) you haven't paid over a third of the agreement, so the goods are not protected (they do not need a court order to come and take them away)
2) you want to try to drag this out and not actually meet your obligations to them (by paying them) while still keeping the car.
i hope that i have misunderstood your post and point 2 doesn't actually apply.
On the subject of going onto private property - they can go on your drive, they just cannot enter your houseWe've spent decades teaching people about their rights, but nothing about their responsibilities.0 -

Well only the one I thought from the conversation I had with them, but I had a pay break when I changed jobs which they verbally agreed, this is why I'm having things in writing now as I just dont trust them....
I'm waiting to see what they got in writing... they were so wishy washy on phone you just couldn't get sense out of them.0 -

I meant I didn't want to play games as I want to sort this out asap without them contradicting themselves constantly on the phone.
Do you tell everyone when you change your number and i mean everyone?
They have both my home number, email address, works number (which they had rung plenty of times in the past, when I was arranging the set up of the car)
I had moved a few months back so spoke to them to confirm my details which they rung my work to confirm receipt of my email etc..
I just didn't think about the mobile to be honest... but they not denying I rung, but they said they I didn't speak to the staff member I'm dealing with.... even though I know her name and it was her I'd spoken too?! I pointed this out an dshe couldn't answer me.
Also there was no mention of outstanding monies at any point during previous conversations? Looking at posts of Welcome they dont' seem to be the most "consistent" companies in how they practice and just from this little fiasco I can see why people complain!
The money will be paid off I just didn't appreciate the "suprise attack" so to speak! As i hadn't received anything email/letter/message just a bit of a shock. and as I said in earlier email, they said too late to sort it then in the next sentence said it was still being dealt with in their office when i challenged it..0 -
One thing I read about these quite regular, my relation has a car also from these. They dont play by any rule books, they deny everything people tell them. Always do things in writting by recorded, then they cant deny. Not bragging but I saved up for my car so wouldnt ever touch finance0

I did save up for my last car and in the space of 2 years thanks to it being a sodding French car, I've replaced, timing belts (went 2 months out of warranty), driveshaft, fuel returns, clutch, MAF sensor, etc.. then as last gasp, the gearbox decided reverse will never work again, costs around £700 for a second hand engine/gearbox before fitting, car is now only worth £2500, in working order.... so it's made the car practically worthless, it's in a lock-up as I couldn't afford to keep fixing it and scrapping it would have got me £300, so i'm waiting to save to fix and then make some money out of it.
I also noticed there's a thread about administration? is this why they playing hardball with customers?0
