Fighting that urge to spend again

I start college as a mature student on Monday, my now ex flat mate has given me his old PC, and I am currently really struggling to fight the urge to go out and buy a laptop.
I don't need one, I didn't even want one till I saw them on the grabbit while you can board! I just wondered if anyone else had actually had the urge to spend after being on here?

I'm always fighting the urge to spend money on things I don't need. I think they should add a shopaholics annonymous to the list of other help groups...I would definately join, lol.Don't let the b*st*rds get you down!0

The truth about most purchase though, is that once the novelty wears off then you realise that the item is not as good as you hoped, and eventually it doesn't really make your life any better. So the trick is to work your way to that stage without actually buying the item. Virtual shopping within your own head.Happy chappy0

Hmmm, some of us know that;)
To be honest i have to treat myself every so often, feel its about making better use of money, not just reducing debt. At the end of the day we all have to have a little pick me up when we're trying so hard.Current Debt £1300 - Egg 0%

Nooooooooo don't do it!! Remind yourself that laptops are easily stolen, easily damaged and very expensive and time-consuming to repair (usually have to be sent away to Ireland at your expense) and have rotten little keyboards.
If that hasn't worked, let me know, and I'll give you some more reasons!Debt at highest: £6,290.72 (14.2.1999)

I do sometimes end up spending after visiting the Grabbit board, but usually it's stuff that I put away for prezzies for later on in the year.Mortgage-free wannabe!0

I'd only buy a laptop if you are willing to carry it around everywhere with you, and are the kind of person that sits in a pub or cafe and desperately wants to check their email (additional expense for WiFi account there) or play a game, or do some work, whatever.
If you're not going to lug it around with you everywhere, whats the point? You may as well just use your PC, with its mouse, better keyboard, and probably better monitor.DFW Nerd No. 140

I prefer desktops too. More computer for the money, more modular, less stressed components, decent keyboard etc.Happy chappy0
