Thinking about quitting job
Comments
-
1 half of me wants to quit but the other half says but how long would it be till you find something else and so i go round and round in circles
Like i say i know its not the best thing to do. Its not even an employer i would recommend to people as its so bad
Ive felt that way (as do many others). Thing is when a job has made me miserable, ive moved on and always ended up in a place slightly better. Many people get stuck in a comfort trap, if you do leave this job you will maybe get the energy to find another one with more motivation than you are now.
I think its sensible that you are already looking for a job - before packing this one in - it would be a great thing to turn up one day and say "I wish to resign" knowing that you have another job secured.
its not the easiest thing to do when your working all the time and need the other time to recover from a !!!!!! job but it is worth it. All depends on how desperate you are to get out really.0 -

Given that many people are being asked to take a pay cut, not getting a rise is not so bad.
well they havent done the review yet as someone who started before me had his months ago so i dont see why mine shouldnt be given lus they're not short of money, in the last 2 months they have employed 3 new people so they arent short, i cant find the contract but it is mentioned in there that its a pay review and you are given a pay rise so im entitled to it and i will get it as ive earned it.0 -

i buy the local paper every week its out without fail and look through it, i check a local website that advertise jobs for the county and direct.gov site plus others at least everyday.
I think ill leave it a bit and see how i feel when i come back off holiday then decide what to do,0 -

Without any proof you can't do alot, if you cannot find it request a copy of the one you signed from PayrollThe Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!
4 people on the ignore list....Bliss!0 -
Do find, or get a copy of, that contractual document. It would be very unusual for it to indicate that every review means a pay rise. In fact, if the company have written that then they aren't being very clever.i cant find the contract but it is mentioned in there that its a pay review and you are given a pay rise so im entitled to it and i will get it as ive earned it.0 -

theres too much competition on websites that are linked to the jobcentre. Ive never managed to get a job via the JC, its always been by walking into a place and noticing a recruitment sign or asking them.
one job I got in security just by walking in and asking, they said they were grateful that I did because they are reluctant to advertise they need security because it sends out the wrong message to the public / criminals - I was virtually assured the job - because I was the only applicant!
Depends what type of job you want but ive had good success in walking into places and asking if anything is available. Also telephoning places from the phone book. It does work.
Times are even more harder now, and I think being creative in job search is vital.0 -

people have had pay rises there, albeit not every year as like i said the owner is slow at doing them, i do have the contract somewhere and ill look for it0 -

I very much doubt your contract states you are due a pay rise every year. What it probably says is that you'll get an annual review and the results of that may include a payrise.
You're perfectly within your rights to push for your annual review, but if you start talking about backdated pay (as you mentioned before) when you have no way of knowing if you would even be awarded a pay increase subsequent to review you will, to be blunt, be signing your own death warrant in that job.
It seems to me that your problems with the nosey colleague could be easily solved by simply saying "I'm quite a private person and I find some of your questions rather intrusive". As for it being a boring job well, as others have said, that's life. To give up a stable job in this climate without another lined up would be total and utter madness.“Don't do it! Stay away from your potential. You'll mess it up, it's potential, leave it. Anyway, it's like your bank balance - you always have a lot less than you think.”
