Bit of an odd question but i'm hoping someone might be able to help.
We've recently had some sort of toilet blockage apparently caused by me and my love of toilet paper (i do have some sort of problem).
We used a toilet auger but stupidly didn't get the correct one with the plastic thing on the end so consequently now have scratches/black marks on the bottom of our toilet bowl.
I've done a bit of googleing and found out i could do with a bit of hard work and some hydrochloric acid. Some American guy who posted about it said he had found it in some cleaning fluid in a dollar store.
Anyone know of a fluid that has this in... or even a better way to clean the marks?

What would I do? I WOULD NOT MESS AROUND WITH HIGHLY CORROSIVE ACIDS IN MY HOME! That stuff gives off very nasty and damaging fumes which could cause terrible damage to eyes and lungs as well as soft tissue. I would only consider using something that toxic as a very last resort and I'd get someone qualified in to do it as well. And I wouldn't be hanging around at home while it was being done either.
Have you tried emptying the lavatory pan of water and giving it a good scrub with one of those green scourers and some cream cleaner?0 -
TBH I can't see much marking a china loo bowl permamently though I suppose you may have scratched the surface of the china. Scratch marks can still be kept white with bleach but if only black surface marks I would don rubber gloves, push as much of the water over the s bend as possible then scrub marks with a bit of vim and a pan cleaner.Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot. :think:0

As Bitterandtwisted said, stay away from hydrochloric acid, no matter how dilute its very very nasty stuff and the scars from that dont wash away0

Hi
I used to be a Customer Care Rep for a top-end bathroom/kitchen saleroom. It sounds like metal marks to me - you get these when metal swipes against ceramic (normally from wrist watches on basins). They are VERY easy to remove with a bath rubber - just rub away with the rubber (as you would with pencil marks on a piece of paper) and it disappears before your eyes. I've got one under my sink in the bathroom and have used it on the bath and the basin.
I quickly googled 'bath rubber' for you and you can get a 'Cramer Bath Rubber' from Amazon but you may find this cheaper by searching a little - or ask at your local bathroom saleroom (the price is generally around the £5 mark).
Hope this helps.Lightbulb moment: -£9,954.31 Current Debt: £0
