Hair extensions

Does anyone here have hair extensions? I did toy with the idea of having salon ones last year but was told they would cost about £200 and now I am doing my hair myself as much as I can as regards colour and not going to the salon much.

When I was trying to grow my hair last year a friend suggested those clip in extensions but I didn't fancy the idea of having clips underneath my hair and it seemed fiddly to do.

I only want to grow my hair a couple of inches and just would like something in the meantime.

Hi I used to have bonded hair extensions, but as you say they are really expensive,so I started using clip in ones.

I found them dead easy to put in and wore them every day whilst waiting for the "mullet from hell" to grow out.

I got mine from Pauls hair world (google it)- the hair is very good quality and the service great. They will even match hair colour if you send them a lock of yours.

BTW Unless your hair is really fine they will not ruin your hair,my hair was in better condition after 18 months of using extensions than it ever was before.

I use hair extensions every day, I use clip in Jessica Simpson 23 inch wavy ones, I have quite long hair anyway and these add volume and a bit extra length, I have used the site below for about 18 months and never had a problem, you can also call them and talk to them if you have any queries, because I've recommended them before I would just like to point out that I am not connected to the site, just a happy customer:)

Hi thanks for your replies, you have given me hope that extensions could work. I gave up last year as when I saw those extensions on the stall where I went with my friend the lady there said you need to sew the clips onto the welts and I would need two welts with my hair being fine. Also I live alone and can't see round the back of my head to clip them in, these looked like they needed to put put in under the hair at the back.

My hair is fine but I thought clip ins would be less damaging than bonded ones.

How do you clip yours in?

If you use the link I gave you I think theres a demo of how to put them in it really is as simple as parting your hair horzontially, clipping it up and clipping in the extensions and letting your own hair back down, it takes less than a minute for me each morning. The Jessica Simpson ones are one piece, so no fiddling and certainly no sewing, its all ready to go when it arrives. Also, I use the sythetic ones only, and they last about 4 months with everyday use, there are human hair ones in the range, its personal choice:)

Hi Glowgirl, I've seen the link and the extensions look good. The ones I saw last year were much cheaper, about £7.00 but thats probably why the clips needed sewing on and you needed two welts for it to look OK.

Do you have to wash them like normal hair, do they only last four months? Mind you that would tide me over until my hair grows. I guess the 10 inch ones just go to shoulder length which is what I want. Sorry to sound thick but I am not very experienced with these things. I might get to like the extra volume they give my hair though and want to wear them all the time even when my hair grows. Using them doesn't slow down your own hair growth does it, do you use them every day?

Hi, yes I use them everyday and my hair is growing as it normally does, I also have a cheap set of straight ones that I use when I fancy a change (I have wavy/curly hair) the cheap ones are ok but not a patch on the JS ones, the site I suggested is the cheapest I found after loads of searching. I wash them about every 3 weeks (depending on what I've been doing) in cool water and a mild shampoo and I let them dry naturally after a gentle combing with a wide toothed comb. After about 3-4 months they may start to frizz depending on how you have looked after them. You cant use heat on the synthetic ones I get but I believe that you can on the new ones she has bought out, but I havn't tried them yet:) Human hair ones will last a lot longer and you can style them as you would normally style your hair but of course they are more expensive and well, made of human hair:eek:

I have had two sets of clip in extensions that I brought off Ebay now and they are great. I have really fine hair and have never had a problem clipping them in at all – they sit really well and do make a difference.

You can either go for length or body. I have a set of long ones to add a bit of length although my hair is shoulder length already so they actually add volume and then taper off at the bottom to add a little length on the ends.

I can definitely recommend them. Much less damaging to the hair (and cheaper ) than bonded extensions.

How do you clip yours in?

To put them in put your hair in a half pony tail and ou can feel the 'parting' to clip them along.

If using a second weft do a second half pony tail and clip them in again.

That's what I used to do, but now my hairs grown back (:
I had them for about 3 years!

Hi thanks all for this, I think I will give them a try as my hair is driving me mad at the moment, it will be worth the money just to feel good about my hair until it grows again. I am saving money on hairdressers so I reckon I can afford it :)
