Lou Reed Perfect Day

Options
I was just wondering what everyones opinions are on having the song Perfect Day for our exit song.

It's a song that both me and OH are always playing and singing along too. It's also feature on one of our favourite movies Trainspotting

I understand it is about heroin addiction so maybe not a great choice for a wedding. Also when looking around on the net alot of people comment that the lines 'you're going to reap what you sow' is very negative.

We are having a small registry office wedding with parents, grandparents and siblings. TBH I don't think anyone of them would know the real 'meaning' behind the song so it isn't really an issue.

What do you guys think?

I just don't know what song to pick for our exit. We have chosen some intrumental pieces for the entrance and signing the register, so we wanted a song for the exit. I can't find anything that I like and with all the right words. I don't want anything that says it's the best day of our lives for example as so far that is the day our son was born and as much as much as we can't wait to get married it will never top our son entering the world.

We're getting married in a reg office and we're having Jackie Wilson ~ You're love keeps lifting me higher

It's so happy and upbeat, which is how I guess I'll be feeling!

I'm not fussed on perfect day because it's so slow and low and not really happy, sorry! Plus what it is about would rule it out for me.

    That's just my opinion though!

I have to say that I always think Perfect Day is a very odd choice for a wedding because of it's subject matter...but it's entirely up to you what you have on your day.

i shall agree to disagree with the other responses... it is YOUR wedding and i truly believe that everyone can respond to music and take meaning from it in different ways.... "you're going to reap just what you sow" for example COULD be positive - ie, if you are good towards your new husband/wife, then you will have that come back to you - it is talking about Karma after all. Who cares what other people may think - I am sure that you will have only people there who know you - so they aren't going to think "ooooh this song is about Smack, so are they trying to tell us they are now a smackhead couple"..... at least i should hope not!!!!!

I say use it! The wedding is about you two and your likes, dislikes etc etc!!

Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?

i never knew the song was about that, obv i knew it was in trainspotting......wasn't it used for children in need or something i always found it quite positive!!!!! even if it is about that it is about someone telling someone else they had a perfect day with them. Reap what you sow is positive! Go for it........the song we are thinking of having for our first dance has the last verse about someone getting pillaged and killed by townsfolk.......so we are thinking of cutting it short by a verse!!!

If the BBC can use it then im pretty sure it either a) isnt about heroin or b) is sociably accepted not to be about heroin any more!!! Go for it - if its your song then thats the song you should DEF have!

oh i love that song, to be honest ive not really thought about what its actually about but perfect day pretty much sums up your wedding day, it doesnt matter what anybody else thinks as long as it means something to you both. Our song is billy ocean love really hurts without you, which is so not my type of music but OH sang it to me all the way through, drunk when we first met so looks like im stuck with it lolx

Thanks for the replies guys. Good to have a nice mix.

I did think the reap what you sow could be positive as if we put the work in we should have a very long and happy marriage. It will be nice to have a song that everytime it comes on the radio will remind us of our special day and the promises we made.
