M&S chicken breasts - half price but not exactly

Hi everyone,
I went shopping at M&S this evening and decided to buy a 520g pack of chicken breasts (skin on). The shelf label said £3.24 for the 500g version of the same with the skin off but both varieties of chicken were being displayed on all four shelves with only the 500g shelf label. The packs were all originally £5.99 and had red half price stickers on them. In big letters.
When I got to the check-out I was charged £5.99 but didn't notice until I had driven way. So I returned and the lady refunded me £2.75.
I didn't want to complain over 25p but £3.24 is not half the original price. How can they display that?

Chicken breasts are one of these items that have inflated prices so that they can offer bargains from time to time. Meanwhile they make a fortune out of people who just buy them and don't notice the price.
A realistic price for 500g chicken breasts is about 3 - 4 pounds for 500gqui tacet consentire -

Yes, I find Sainsburys are the worst culprit for this. They are always on offer, 2 for £5.99. Tesco seem to follow suit from time to time too.
I don't understand how they don't expect people to 'work it out'. I have often been put off buying these 'promotions' purely for this reason!0 -
Same with Bacon, inflated prices so that every supermarket always has a buy one get one free offer on selected lines.0

Sainsbury's do this with salmon fillets, too. BOGOF, 50% extra free...
And it works. Proof, if ever needed, that you can stick BOGOF, REDUCED, or 50% EXTRA FREE on any old crap you like and some mug will come along and buy it.0
