Taking Jobs in a slow jobs market

I am without a job.My background is in accountancy. Things are quiet at the moment.I am thinking of applying for restaurant work.I have no problem with this myself as you are working with people. But I am a bit anxious of peoples reactions and how it will look on my cv.Am I a snob?

Better to have some non relevant work experience with relevant transferable skills than a big gap on your CV.

You don't say what area of accountancy you're from, but a lot of roles are client facing and need good people skills - which is exactly the sort of thing you can evidence from a stint at being a waiter.

If you have a chance to stay in the world of work and refuse to take it - that's when you'll start getting judged badly. No one looks down on a grafter.

Have you tried temping or contract work? You are much better to try for something in a similar area rather than changing completely; unless you want to change careers completely. I changed jobs recently and was thinking of doing something very different but was advised by the recruitment consultant that this was very difficult in the current jobs market
