I would like to teach French or Italian.

Hi this is on behalf of my girlfriend...

Hi all,

I hope somebody can help me here as I've been looking for options but don't know where to start!

I'm 24 and Italian and moved to England to live with my boyfriend last year.

In Italy I completed the Maturita' Classica 100/100 but this is the only qualification I have. I believe it's equivalent to an English A Level.

I would like to teach French or Italian in the UK and don't know where to start.

I'm fluent in Italian, English and French but obviously need the qualifications to teach.

Can anybody tell me the best route to becoming a teacher of these languages in the UK?

Also would I qualify for grants to help pay for University etc?

Thanks

Carolina

You would have to do a degree in the languages you want to teach and then a teachinq qualification.

As an EU student you would be eligible to take out a loan for the fees in the same way that British students do but wouldn't qualify for any maintenance funding.

Teaching in Adult Education, and also private businesses is different.
Someone I know is a language teacher, and works in a mixture of settings, adult education colleges, private tuition in people's homes, and also business (through a business language school).

Here's the sort of course required:

You would still normally need a degree for this course, as it says in your link.

'normally' does not mean always. My friend does not have a degree and was accepted on a course.

There are always exceptions to everything but people shouldn't make their career plans based on an exception.

In addition, the OP specifically asked about going to university.

OP pls PM if you need further info.

PS Goldsmith is part of the Uni of London, but if you both live in Preston there may be a more local University.
