02 roaming in Border areas

I'm sure this has been discussed before but can anyone help me.... I live in the NW and every so often 02 Ireland boosts their signal from across the border and knocks me off 02 Uk.... I usually don't notice until it's too late and someone has called me. .... I paid £1.50 to receive a mobile phone call in my own house:mad: in Stroke City.

I've already set my network settings to manual but it doesn't seem to be working:confused:. I thought that the government had dealt with these roaming charges earlier this year... Am I wrong?

Any suggestions would be greatly received.

edit: I'm on pay & go btw.

I thought that customers from o2 ireland were not charged for roaming but o2 UK customers were charged for roaming.

I had the same problem with my new sony erikkson phone in that I was charged even though I manually set the network to o2 UK. I then changed to my old nokia and didnt have the problem with it.

sounds like what you need is the O2 Ireland bolt on... it's a godsend!! £1.99 a month and making/receiving calls is the same price in ROI as in NI. So to receive a call is FREE. :)

  • I've got problems with roaming as well. However, I don't think the bolt-on works for pay monthly - I tried the O2 website & I couldn't find anything similar for pay monthly. I'm already on the ITS deal & I think it saves me a bit but not much. Can anyone help?
  • Ooops! Just found a link for a pay monthly Ireland Bolt-On. Its usually 99p but free at the moment. However you still have to pay to receive calls in Ireland/border areas. Whats going on? Why are pay & go rates better?

  • can you not call them and ask them to switch roaming off? means your a bit stuck if you go over the border tho
  • I could, but travel regularly across the border to family and would need roaming on for those occasions.

I just think it's a bit rich to be paying roaming charges when I'm in my own home in the UK and because O2 Ireland boost their signal on Scalp mountain, I have to suffer!
