as the title suggest. Have been to Fireplaces Direct already. Does anyone have any recommendations for anywhere else? Preferably in Co Antrim/Down

Would not recommend Fireplaces Direct. We had a fireplace fitted by one of their fitters and a dangerous botch was made of it.

i can recommend B & Q - we got a fab black granite fireplace last year, hearth etc. for very reasonable price and it'll be even better if you can catch one when their 15% off is on, or you know someone over 65(?) who gets discount.
they have a selection on their website and if you go to store, there are some on display and a catalogue too.
    hth.

We replaced ours a couple of years ago and got the new one from Steele's in Dromore. It was the second one we got from them - 2 different houses.
It's a pokey wee place out in the country but we found what we wanted there and at a fair price. I don't know if it's still open though.

Other places which have a good selections are:-

Fireplace Solutions in The House of Vic-Ryn in Lisburn
    Portadown Fireplaces
    Ards Fireplaces

I wouldn't recommend Fireplaces Direct either. When we got one from them for our current house it was fitted ok but the mahogany look was the fashion in 1996 and after a few years the mahogany finish started to peel off showing MDF underneath. Nothing to do with the use of the fire as it was a gas one and rarely lit.

  • There's a place in Lisburn out the back of the car parking on Antrim Rd or just off Bachelors walk. Don't know the name but heard a couple of good things from work ones and remember passing it. sorry can't help more.

It's as you drive down to Graham Gardens Car Park. The road it's on is first right after Railway Street Presbyterian church

  • House of Fireplaces in Portadown. (google it for directions)

would recommend, with the shape of the living room , i went in with a design, and he give advice on a few options and custom made it.

Was much cheaper (by over a 1/3rd) compared to portadown fireplaces at the time.

    Did you buy one?

If not, you could try Wilsons reclamation yard You're fireplace won't loose value.
