in Cutting tax
Hi
Im currently in the process of buying my first new home, can someone advice me that if the current owner of the property is on a council tax band 'c' (£52,001 to £68,000) and I buy the property for £189K would that automatically put me in band 'G' ( £160,001 to £320,000 ) which will require me to pay £2,050.00 council tax? I hope this is not the case as it's alot of money.

Try the VOA site to find out more. If the house has been modified since the assessment, a revaluation may take place after a sale.

Also, if this is your first house in an area, you are entitled to pay the Council Tax in installments, once they have issued the bill. It is wise to tell the council that you have moved in on the date.
Oh, and do not get a cat, they are bleeding pawfull0 -
Council Tax bands (England and Scotland) are based on 1991 property values. The band can be increased following a sale if a previous owner has carried out improvements to the property. The improvements would have to have sufficient value to increase the 1991 value of the house into the next band(s).
Payment of CT in instalments is not confined to the first house that you own, you can pay the CT for your next home by instalment also. The instalment facility can be withdrawn if you do not keep up with payments. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
